`Council Minutes of 4/2/96
Mr. McKay, Chairperson of the Streets & Drainage Committee: 1) The committee met on
--~. Monday, March 25, for the purpose of discussing Ordinance 96-50. Present were Council
Members Nashar and McKay; Service Director Bohlmann; Safety Director Kasler.
Ordinance 96-50 authorizes the Mayor to employ Howard, Needles, Tammen and
Bergendorff to provide engineering services with regard to the plans for the 7 foot wide
sidewalk on the west side of Crocker Road north of Lorain Road. At the present time, it
is not known what distance the sidewalk will be from the road. The committee
recommended approval.
Mr. McKay reported for Mr. Lind, Chairperson of the Finance Committee: 1) The
committee met on Monday, March 25. Present were Council Members Nashar, Musial
and McKay; Service Director Bohlmann; Safety Director Kasler; Mayor Boyle; Personnel
& Administrative Director Wilamosky; Ameritech representatives Ken Bradley and Lee
Graff. The following items were discussed:
a. Ordinance 96-51, which grants to Ameritech New Media Inc. anon-exclusive franchise
to construct, operate and maintain a cable system in the City of North Olmsted for a
period of 15 years. The committee believes that the competition between Cablevision and
Ameritech will benefit the residents through better technology, better service and a larger
number of available channels. Ameritech has agreed to provide a minimum of 77
channels. Also, access will be provided to the schools. The committee recommended
approval.
B. Ordinance 96-49, which is the appropriations legislation. A number of changes have
been made and Council has received the amended copy. The committee recommended
approval as revised.
Mrs. Saringer, Chairperson of the Recreation Committee: 1) The committee meeting was
held on March 28. In attendance were committee members Nashar, Limpert and Saringer;
Service Director Bohlmann; Safety Director Kasler. The following items were discussed:
a. NOSA's request to light diamond number four at North Olmsted Park. After a lengthy
discussion with Mr. Bohlmann, the committee agreed with him that this project needs
more study. Mr. Bohlmann indicated that all of the park's lighting needs to be upgraded,
diamond number two is outdated and needs to be reva~ed and a lighting upgrade for
Homecoming should be considered. It was suggested that NOSA put the money in
escrow to pay for an engineering plan and the lighting could be reviewed next year.
b. Retention behind the Recreation Center--possibly installing a pond. The committee
agreed to ask Council to consider funding for engineering. Mrs. Saringer requested that
Mr. Boehmer ask the Finance Committee to take this matter under consideration. At Mr.
Boehmer's request, Chairperson Lind agreed to take this matter into the Finance
Committee.
5
