Council Minutes of 3/5/96
Council's position on the liquor permit and for the passage of the regulatory ordinance
shows community sprit and concern. The residents should understand that the hearing
officer may not take the type of business into consideration when determining whether to
grant the liquor license transfer. However, he still feels the residents should present their
opinions to the Liquor Board.
Margie Metzger, 24730 Dawn Drive, said she hadn't been this `4nad" about an issue since
the problem with the Recreation Center roof in the 1980's. She expressed her opinion
that an adult entertainment business opening at the former Darby O'Tooles would be
`5nappropriate." Mrs. Metzger asked if residents could attend the State Liquor Board
hearing regarding the liquor license transfer. Mr. Gareau said that residents could attend
the hearing. Mr. Nashar said residents could express their concerns in writing to
Mrs. Waver who is a supervisor at the State Liquor Board. Mayor Boyle that the media
will be notified of the hearing date and it will be announced on the cable community access
channel.
Joseph Sepesy, 4268 Plumwood Drive, said he and other seniors are concerned about the
senior housing complex that will soon be built. The seniors are concerned about the lack
of covered parking and the plan. to have community laundry rooms. They would like to
have a town meeting with the architect and/or builder to discuss some of their concerns.
JeffBuzza, 4366 Coe Avenue, asked for an update on the Coe Ditch project. Mr. McKay
said he believed this was part of the Georgette relief sewer project. The project was
delayed so that an agreement with Fairview Park could be negotiated. Service Director
Bohlmann explained that we are cun•ently in the engineering services phase of the project.
This project was started as a storm relief sewer down Georgette Drive to take care of the
flooding problems in the Danberry-Coe-Palm Drive area. It has been expanded to a
sanitary sewer project, and this delayed the project somewhat.
Patty Chakarelis, 3581. Beaumont Drive, asked when the legislation regulating adult
entertainment businesses would be passed. Mr. Gareau answered that a committee
meeting would have to be held, and he expected the legislation to be passed during the
coming week.
Chris Walker, 4085 Sawmill Circle, lives only 15 to 20 feet away from Darby O'Tooles
and is very concerned about the possibility of an adult entertainment bar opening there.
She is especially concerned about the effect on the children of the neighborhood.
Patricia. Marie Sands, 4075 Sawmill Circle, said her home is approximately 2 feet from the
Darby O'Tooles' property. Law Director Gareau explained that the proposed legislation
would limit adult entertainment businesses from 750 feet of residential property and is
meant to protect residential neighborhoods.

7
