Council Minutes of 1/21/97
Finance Director Burns: 1) He has been assured by Gary Hannum of the Data Processing
,,,, Department that the city's System 400 computer will not need adjustments to prepare for
the year 2000.
2) The financial reports distributed to Council earlier this month were preliminary due to
the lack of certain information. All the information has now been received, and the final
reports for 1996 will soon be distributed.
Mr. McKay, Chairperson of the Environmental Control Committee: 1) The committee
will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, February 6, for a public discussion regarding the storage of
low-level nuclear waste in Ohio. Residents are welcome to attend and express their
opinions.
Mr. Lind, Chairperson of the Finance Committee: 1) The committee met on January 14.
In attendance were committee members McKay, Musial and Lind; Council Members
O'Grady, Limpert and Nashar; Finance Director Burns; Service Director Bohlmann.
Ordinance 97-4, which authorizes the sharing of income tax revenues with the school
district, was briefly discussed. Since all the parties involved in the matter could not be
present, the committee held off making a decision on the legislation.
Mr. Nashar, Chairperson of the Public Safety, Health and Welfare Committee: 1) On first
reading tonight is Ordinance 97-7, which authorizes the placing of "No Parking Between
Signs" on the south side of the driveway of 4185 Danberry Drive and the north side of the
driveway of 4171 Danberry Drive. Danberry is a cul-de-sac street, and the signs are
required to prevent cars from blocking the driveways of these residents. This issue was
previously discussed at a committee meeting and with the committee's approval has now
been put into legislative form.
2) In July of 1995, Ordinance 95-33 establishing a property maintenance code was
introduced by Council Members Saringer, Limpert and Nashar and passed by City
Council. During the past 18 months, the Building Department has cited 20 locations
under the provisions of this legislation. The department is currently working on the
establishment of a data base for complaints made under the property maintenance code.
So far, the number of complaints has been moderately low.
Mr. O'Grady, Chairperson of the Intra-Governmental Relations and Legislation; Long-
Range Planning Committee: 1) The committee meeting scheduled for January 14 had to
be canceled due to the illness of two guest speakers from CEI. The meeting, to discuss
Ordinance No. 96-195 and 96-196, will be rescheduled in the near future.
2) The public hearing for the Community Development Block Grant program will take
place at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, in Council Chambers. This year's program
has $1.3 million available for distribution within Cuyahoga County. Residents are
encourage to attend. Further information is available from Human Resources Director
Don Copeland.

2
