The committee unanimously recommended approval of
Mrs. Strnad's appointment. Mr. Limpert moved that Council approve the appointment of
Barbara Strnad to the Human Resources Advisory Board. The motion was seconded by
Mr. Nashar and unanimously approved.
Mr. Gareau, chairperson of the Building, Zoning and Development Committee: 1) The
Building, Zoning and Development Committee of Council met on May 24 in Old Town
Hall. In attendance were committee members Gareau, Miller and McKay; Councilmen
Limpert and O'Grady; Building Commissioner Conway, Assistant City Engineer
McDermott. Agenda items were as follows:
• Crete Plaza, Phase I & II, located at 24361 Lorain Road, with an application for a
conditional use permit. Mr. Mongello of Mongello & Associates represented the
project. This structure and project was originally approved by City Council in 1997.
It is directly to the west of the fire station near Walter Road. This project originally
called for the relocation of the VFW, which used to be where the structure now
stands, to the southern portion of the property. The plan as submitted contemplates
the use of a daycare center instead of the VFW as originally proposed. For the use of
a daycare center in this area, Planning Commission explored the possibility of
sidewalks, speed bumps and a crosswalk for children's safety. After discussion, the
committee recommended that the conditional use permit be granted. The sidewalk
will be installed to run along the western property line from Lorain Road back to the
daycare center, which is located some distance back from Lorain Road. After further
discussion, the committee unanimously recommended approval. President Saringer
asked whether there would be a fenced-in play area for the daycare, and Mr. Gareau
replied that there would be a fenced-in area to the rear of the building. Mr. Gareau
moved that Council approve the proposal. The motion was seconded by Mr. McKay
and unanimously approved.
• Daewoo Motor America, 27881 Lorain Road, a proposal to expand the existing
showroom which would include the existing canopy and overhang. Representing
Daewoo Motor America was David Burkovicz. The proposal consists of expanding
the existing showroom, which used to be the former Halleen Oldsmobile. This will
be accomplished by extending the existing overhang which will be moved out to
about a distance of 8 feet. Glass will be placed between columns that are presently on
the building. When asked if the existing building would be painted, it was indicated
that the building would be painted white with green trim, together with canopies
located at various portions of the building. It was discussed specifically whether or
not an intercom system would be used at the dealership because this could possibly
interfere with the residents who live to the south of the dealership. The representative
~~"`- of Daewoo Motor America indicated that no intercom system would be used. After
3
,~ ,~,.,,.,..~~„w< . , .-.erg ., ..~.~._ ~._ ,_,.
I>
