Present were committee members McKay, Miller
and Gareau; Councilpersons Nashar, Kasler, Limpert and O'Grady; Assistant City
Engineer McDermott; Assistant Building Commissioner Rymarczyk; several residents
from Dewey Road; representatives from Bennett-Dover Remodelers. There were four
items on the agenda:
• Suburban Auto Body, 26618 Brookpark Road extension, a proposal consisting of
renovating the front and side of the building with a new entrance and drive-through
estimation bay, along with redesigning the parking lot and landscaping. Representing
Suburban Auto Body were Rebecca Weisenthal of Bennett-Dover Home Remodelers
and Angelo Padotto, the owner/operator of Suburban Auto Body. The proposal
consists of exterior renovations consisting of building materials of split face block,
with bronze and aluminum frame windows, standing seam roof and repainting of the
building. There are also some landscape modifications to the plans as were
demonstrated on the elevations presented. The reason for the renovations as detailed
by representatives from Suburban was to allow customers to drive through the
building to have estimators look at their vehicles as opposed to simply doing the
estimations out in the parking lot where sometimes the elements could become an
issue. It was also explained that the proposal addressed some serious overcrowding
issues that they have on site as well as limit the interaction of pedestrians and
employees with traffic in the parking lot. An issue arose causing some discussion by
members of the committee concerning the use of a neon sign-a bright blue neon sign
located on the southernmost portion of the building, the front which faces Lorain
Road. The sign itself would be interior behind glass and consist of a blue neon tube
lighting. There was some discussion and concern by the committee as to whether or
~` not the city in the past has allowed the use of neon lighting for purposes of signage.
4
__. ,.,_ .,_......., ~r r ...F....a.,, ~x~,-~
