Council Minutes of 1/19/99
• St. Richard's Catholic Church, 26855 Lorain Road, a proposal to construct an
addition to the existing church for additional seating and storage areas. Father
Stollenwerk explained that St. Richard's has long been hampered in its ability to
properly accommodate church-goers and long ago resorted to holding simultaneous
Masses in both a basement classroom and main chapel area. The church would like to
expand the main chapel to accommodate the number of parishioners who attend
Mass. The east and west walls of the main chapel will be removed to add a total of
982 additional square feet with increased seating for 416 parishioners. The additions
will be circular additions to the main chapel. The proposed building materials will
match those building materials currently in use, including incorporating some of the
bricks that can be saved from the east and west walls that will come down.
Additionally, stained glass windows will accent the addition to the church. The roof
will match the existing copper roof and steeple. The committee unanimously
recommended approval subject to the recommendations of the city boards and
commissions. Mr. Gareau moved that Council approve the proposal for St. Richard's
expansion subject to the recommendations of the city boards and commissions. The
motion was seconded by Mr. McKay and unanimously approved.
• Ordinance 99-1, an ordinance adopting a new and revised Chapter 1309 of the
Building Code of the City of North Olmsted. The committee discussed the proposed
ordinance and it was stated that this is merely an administrative provision undertaken
every two or three years to update the Ohio Basic Building Code. North Olmsted's
ordinances incorporate the Basic Building Code, and it is necessary to bring our
ordinances in line with the changes. After much discussion with the Assistant
Building Commissioner, the committee unanimously recommended approval.
Mr. Nashar, Chairperson of the Public Safety, Health & Welfare Committee: 1) The
committee met on January 13.
