Council Minutes of 11/8/2000 <br />~,,, Resolution No. 2000-142 introduced by Councilman O'Grady was given its second <br />reading. A resolution encouraging Congress to pass House Bills 3883 and 3377, which <br />would require labeling of genetically engineered foods and that the Federal Food and <br />Drug Administration (FDA) obtain information from manufacturers of genetically <br />engineered foods relating to the safety of such foods, and declaring an emergency. <br />Councilman O'Grady moved for suspension of the rule requiring three readings; second <br />by Councilman McKay; passed unanimously. Councilman O'Grady moved to adopt; <br />second by Councilman McKay. Roll call: O'Grady, yes with comment that this <br />resolution deals with the introduction of radical new food technologies that are finding <br />their way onto the tables of people through our nation without proper review by the <br />federal government. This is a very urgent situation, and he commends those people, <br />including Congressman Dennis Kucinich, who are trying at the federal level to correct the <br />issue. He would also thank the person who brought it to his attention, Erika Pilisy. Roll <br />call continued: McKay, yes; Nashar, yes; Miller, yes; Limpert, yes; Gareau, yes. The <br />motion passed unanimously. Resolution No. 2000-142 adopted. <br />Ordinance No. 2000-143 introduced by Mayor Musial was given its second reading. An <br />ordinance to make and transfer appropriations for current expenses and other <br />expenditures for the City of North Olmsted for the year ending December 31, 2000 as <br />amended. Councilman McKay moved to suspend the rule requiring three readings; <br />second by Councilman O'Grady; passed unanimously. Councilman McKay moved for <br />adoption. The motion was seconded by Councilman O'Grady and passed unanimously. <br />Ordinance No. 2000-143 adopted. <br />Ordinance No. 2000-144 introduced by Mayor Musial was given its second reading. An <br />ordinance authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the Senior Workers' <br />Action Program/Senior Community Service Employment Program with the City of North <br />Olmsted acting as host agency, and declaring an emergency. <br />Ordinance No. 2000-145 introduced by Mayor Musial was given its second reading. An <br />ordinance authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the Senior Workers' <br />Action Program/Senior Community Service Employment Program wherein said Senior <br />Workers' Action Programs/Senior Community Employment Program shall act as a host <br />agency in partnership with North Olmsted City Schools, and declaring an emergency. <br />Ordinance 2000-146 was introduced and placed on first reading by Mayor Musial and <br />Councilman O'Grady. An ordinance amending the Traffic Control File of the City of <br />North Olmsted by providing for the installation of two "No Parking, Stopping or <br />Standing" signs, one sign to be affixed to the telephone pole at 26821 Sweetbriar Drive <br />with an arrow pointing west and one sign to be erected in the right-of--way at 26893 <br />Sweetbriar Drive with an arrow pointing east and declaring an emergency. Councilman <br />O'Grady moved to suspend the rule requiring three readings and noted that the legislation <br />had been reviewed in committee; second by Councilman Limpert. Roll call: O'Grady, <br />yes; Limpert, yes; Miller, yes with comment that, although this was discussed in <br />committee, it was never on the committee agenda, nor were people present provided a <br />copy of the ordinance. In the future, he would ask that, if an issue is to be discussed in <br />13 <br />
