• Council Minutes of 9/19/2000
• Ordinance 2000-115 establishes the compensation and benefits for all part-time
~.~~
hourly employees of the municipal bus line. There are five non-union part-time
:~.~.
employees, and the RTA returns any money paid to those people. The committee
recommended approval and suspension of the rule requiring three readings.
Mr. Limpert, chairperson of the Recreation, Public Parks and Buildings Committee: 1)
As chairman of the Recreation Committee, he is Council's appointee to the Rec
Commission. Yesterday, once again, a scheduled Rec Commission meeting was
cancelled due to lack of quorum. He would like to ask the administration to confer with
the chair of the commission and perhaps review some of the attendance records to Look
at whether we need to change the night on which the meeting takes place or perhaps
request that several people, with the understanding of how busy everyone is, perhaps
step down to allow for other appointments.
Mr. Nashar asked that the high school history class come forward and introduce
themselves. Mr. Meczka and the following students came forward: Leah Konecsni,
Amanda Briggs, Jason VanSchoor, Mike Cipro, Brian Stanton, William Roegge, Melissa
Foreman, Matt Patton, Megan Murphy, Justin Banak.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane
• Spoke in favor of Mr. Nashar's ordinance regarding cell phones. He believes it is a
pro-active ordinance and that it is enforceable.
• During caucus, he heard President Saringer bring up the issue of legislation being
held in committee. He suggested that the Rules of Council be changed to allow for
legislation that has been held a certain length of time to either be reintroduced, tabled
or some action taken.
• On the issue of the census, this community is probably going to need redistricting
because he believes the law requires a 5% variance between wards and districts. He
suggested that Council begin to look at this and hire an outside professional group.
Robert Whiting, Commander of the VFW Post 7647
• Thanked each and every Council member for passage of the resolution commending
James Boehmer. James meant a great deal to the VFW. Last year, they renamed
their post after him in gratitude for his service.
• He requested that Council support Resolution 2000-124 declaring November 11,
2000 Veterans Day. Quite a bit of work has been going on by various veterans
groups to make the Korean War and World War II memorials a success. The VFW
Post 7647 was named an all-state past last year due to their work in the community
and with the Korean and World Ward II organizations.
Joe Bouman 23950 Lessner Road
• Thanked Mrs. Copfer and said he was happy to see in the newspaper that our credit
rating had improved. Financial controls are in place now but our debt is still very
high. Hopefully, we will be able to bring in into line.
9
