Council Minutes of 7/18/2000
• Councilman Gareau, chairperson of the Streets & Drainage Committee, said he would
take this issue into the committee for discussion.
• Service Director Bohlmann said that the issue had not been brought to the attention of
the Streets & Drainage Committee because it is an in-house project and not a bid
project. He has sent out an additional letter for right of entries to all these properties
so that we can take care of this project. Indeed, we did send a letter in 1997 to the
residents over there, and we did not get to the project because of more pressing
matters. We are in a position to take of that project this summer.
Dan Koehler, 27960 Marquette Boulevard
• He and his neighbors are very concerned about the tower that the cell phone company
wants to build on the property the neighbors have been looking at for 25 years. It's a
beautiful piece of land. Also, he is really upset about what this project will do to his
resale value. He hopes that everything is looked at when it comes to this, and he
hopes people are put ahead of industry.
• Safety Director Jenkins responded that recently the BZD Committee had reviewed a
request by Nextel to co-locate on the Clague Park monopole. Also, they were
looking for additional property in northern North Olmsted and southern Westlake.
They looked at this piece of property and thought they could locate there. He gave
them permission to look at it because the setbacks of 300 feet that are required to
residential property are very close there. So they surveyed, and he understands that
they are declining from looking at that property.
• Mr. Miller asked that, in the future, residents are given prior notice if companies are
going to be surveying and knocking on residents' doors or walking through yards.
Mr. Jenkins agreed that was a good idea. He had no idea they would be going on
anyone's private property as there are three accesses available to that property. He
will apologize to any residents who were inconvenienced. With regard to the
mosquito problem discussed earlier, this is a annual problem in the city and he
encourages residents to call the County Board of Health. They are very responsive
and do a good job of following up with calls that they get.
Betty Lord, 5917 Gareau Drive
• She is the vice-chairman of the Landmarks Commission and would like to ask
Council when they intend to involve the Landmarks Commission in the plans for use
of the triangle. (The area of Lorain, Porter, Butternut.) The Butternut area is a
historic district, therefore, anything that is done with that triangle will impact the
Butternut district. It seems that the members of the Landmarks Commission are often
either the last to hear about plans or have to read it in the newspaper. She doesn't
believe that was the intention of the additional legislation that was put on to the
original Landmarks ordinance. They want to be a resource, and they want to work
with Council, and they need to be involved. They ask that they are involved before
the decisions are made.
• Mrs. Kasler said that at the last committee meeting where the library issue was
discussed, she did raise the question of whether Landmarks had been involved or
consulted with regard to the Butternut Ridge property. Part of the request that she
~`" personally has and some other members of Council have is to see about putting the
11
