Council Minutes of 6/6/2000
,-, been heard and the question has been asked: Are you going to use eminent domain?
No, he is not going to use eminent domain at all. Mrs. Hadsell expressed doubt that
the Mayor did not know that a city employee was a tenant in the house. The tenant
told her son that the city had him over there and he was going to "take care of the
grounds and keep an eye on the place." Mayor Musial said he does not know
everything about what is going on in private property. Mrs. Hadsell said, "Please,
where is the plan?"
Joann Sheridan, 5560 Barton Road, #503
• Doesn't like what she sees here. Everything is moved from around her. The trees,
and the beautiful things that are there--birds, etc. All she sees is a leaf dump. She
hasn't been behind this movement, but she will now get behind this movement. This
is wrong, very wrong. She used to be Mayor Petrigac's secretary, and she knows how
Council works. She has lived in North Olmsted for 25 years. When she moved into
Canterbury Woods it was a new, exclusive development. Two years after they were
there, the city wanted to buy the land behind to put in a garbage dump. The same
thing can happen here. Once you purchase the land, they (neighbors) have no control.
This is very wrong.
Jay Hadsell, 25151 Brookpark Road, #1202
• Agrees with his mother along the lines of the fact that he has no problem with ball
diamonds. There is ample area west of Stearns Road. In the sense of the soccer
~ fields that were bought many years ago, originally that was designed to be a hospital.
That did not happen. Councils come and go, Mayors come and go. Once the city
buys the piece of property and owns it, that's it. If the city cannot tell him they are
not going to do any easement (take the property), who says that somebody else down
the road might not do so. That cannot be guaranteed. (Mayor and Council President
agreed with the statement.) He has lived in the city for 34 years. Every since he was
a kid, he wanted that piece of property. Now the city is telling him they are going to
take it away from him. He spent his life there, he grew up there. He wants to have
that piece of property when he gets older. His mom and dad aren't going anywhere
and neither is he.
Trudy Schooley, 30660 Bradley Road
• This situation all started in the middle of the week between Christmas and New
Year's when she and the Hadsell family received a phone call from a very prestigious
appraisal company in Chagrin. The appraisal company said they wanted to appraise
their properties because the city was interested in acquiring their properties. This took
her breath away. It was a frightening experience. She and the Hadsell family did not
know anything about this, and that's why they came to the Council meeting. She just
wanted to remind Council how it all started.
Rick Blankenburg, 6184 Gareau Drive
• Would like to address some of the people who have spoken from the heart--they care
about their property. He has seen this kind of thing going on before. As an example,
it is always so easy to come out and speak when it is your backyard, when it's your
18
_ g _ ~.,~,~,.~~ ,.,.. , .. ,. ,
