Council Minutes of 5/16/2000
. effective use of tax dollars. It is very easy to be a naysayer and get up and tell
~,,,, everybody we're against this and that. People who wrote the newspaper article
obviously have very little respect for North Olmsted citizens. He personally takes
offense to it. Council was elected by the people of North Olmsted. This article
impugns the integrity of these people. People who wrote the articles/ads should be
ashamed of themselves--only thing they are out for is the dollars. They are only
concerned about dollars in their own pocket. Person who wrote the article has no
integrity whatsoever. Thanks to Council and administration for the courage to look
into these types of agreements and encourages that it be passed.
Dave O'Donnell, 28520 Elder:
• Proud member of Local 38. Passage of this legislation may make it easier for
members who provide benefits and a living wage to be able to work together in the
future.
Tom Melton, 4056 Winton Park Drive:
• Proud member of Loca138 and resident of North Olmsted for 14 years. Thanks to the
Council and Mayor for looking at cost savings for the city and taxpayers. Wants
people who are working on these projects to be the people in the room this evening--
he knows they are going to be safe. With his children growing up in this city, doesn't
want people from other communities and states coming in here.
Larry Orlowski, 4804 Bailey Road:
• Council people too dignified, rightly so, to answer the "trash" that the Associated
Builders and Contractors has published and sent out. As a resident, taxpayer and
voter he takes great displeasure with the yellow journalism and lies which ABC has
used against the Council. These lies are one of many underhanded attempts to secure
their position. It's a shame that an organization who speaks about being discriminated
against goes to such lengths to try to intimidate and bully our elected Council to do
their bidding. If there were any truth to their being discriminated against, they would
have filed a lawsuit. They have had 1 1/2 years time to do this. That is how long
Council has worked on the ordinance--listening to both sides and gathering
information to make a qualified decision. Council spends a great deal of time on all
issues to make hard decisions which will benefit or hurt city and residents. That's
why he believes the lies and inaccuracies give a true picture of the ABC's methods
and philosophy towards working people and the officials whom they have elected.
Terry Kelley, 26967 Edgepark:
• Member of Local 38. Believes in a quality community, which we do have. Wants
good buildings for all our children to be taught in. Wants to thank Council for
considering the legislation; hopefully, they will consider it in the community's best
interest to pass it.
Bob Heine, 5751 Fitch Road:
• Proud resident for 21 years and proud member of Pipefitters Local 120. Agrees with
what was spoken earlier about this ground-breaking resolution and how proud the
7
