Council Minutes of 3/8/2000
Resolution No. 2000-25 was introduced and placed on first reading by Mrs. Kasler. A
resolution urging the North Olmsted School Board to take any and all action necessary to
~~
seek an adjustment of the North Olmsted School District's boundaries so as to include
within the district that portion of the Cinnamon Woods development recently annexed to
the City of North Olmsted, but still located within the boundaries of the Olmsted Falls
School District, and declaring an emergency.
Resolution No. 2000-26 was introduced and placed on first reading by the Mayor and
entire Council. A resolution adopting the Citizens Pledge of the Faith Communities
Forum. Mrs. Kasler moved for suspension of the rules requiring three readings and
committee review; second by Mr. O'Grady. Roll call: Kasler, yes; O'Grady, no, with
comment that he has been approached by a resident who has some concerns with regard
to Resolution 2000-26. In caucus, he asked the fine people who brought this resolution to
the city if there would be any negatives associated with holding it in committee for
review. He was assured there would be no negatives associated with that action. In light
of the lack of any negative of holding the legislation to go into committee and in light of
the fact that we have a resident who would like to address it, he thinks it should not be
passed on suspension. Roll call continued: Gareau, yes; Limpert, no, with comment that,
as he reads it, they are very fine words, in fact, very important words. He thinks the
importance would be emphasized by holding a committee meeting first. Roll call
continued: McKay, yes, with comment that he believes these facts today, will believe
them next week and will believe them a year or two years from now. Roll call continued:
Miller, yes; Nashar, yes. The motion passed with five affirmative votes and two negative
votes. Mrs. Kasler moved to adopt; motion seconded by Mr. Gareau. Roll call: Kasler,
yes; Gareau, yes; McKay, yes; Miller, yes; O'Grady, yes, with comment that, although he
definitely thinks the legislation should be held for review by committee to ensure that
everybody who would like to address it has that opportunity, he cannot find a single word
in the resolution that he would disagree with. He wholeheartedly supports it. Roll call
continued: Nashar, yes; Limpert, yes. The motion passed unanimously. Resolution No.
2000-6 adopted.
Ordinance No. 2000-27 was introduced and placed on first reading by Mayor Musial. An
ordinance to make appropriations for current expenses and other expenditures for the City
of North Olmsted for the year ending December 31, 2000.
MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS
President Saringer asked the representatives of the school district who were in attendance
to tell the school board about Resolution 2000-25. She has received complaints from
residents who live in Cinnamon Woods and feels it is totally unfair that they are paying
taxes to Olmsted Falls Schools but do not have the ability to vote there. She asked
Councilwoman Kasler to sponsor the legislation, and she hopes that the school board will
do something to relieve the tax burden of those residents.
~.
11
.~w:.~ r.~..,»
I ~,'
