Council Minutes of 3/8/2000
Mr. Gareau also addressed the school representatives about the fact that, when he
recently received a notice about the expansion of the community service channel, he
wrote to Cablevision about the poor reception on the channel devoted to the city schools.
He received a phone call back rather quickly to tell him that the problem must surely be
isolated to his home and they would send out a crew. Within 20 minutes of the first
phone call, he received another call informing him that he was correct and there was a
problem with the signal of that channel. The channel is now crystal-clear.
Mr. McKay scheduled a Finance Committee meeting for 7 p.m. on Monday, March 13, to
discuss Resolutions 2000-19 and 2000-20. The Service Director and Mayor are asked to
attend.
Mrs. Kasler scheduled an Intra-Governmental Relations and Legislation; Long-Range
Planning Committee meeting immediately following the Finance Committee meeting to
discuss Ordinance 2000-24 and Resolution 2000-25. Representatives of the school board
and the Law Department are requested to attend.
Mr. Nashar scheduled a BZD meeting for March 14 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss Ordinance
2000-23; Ordinance 2000-12, the sign code; Planning Commission items. The Building
Commissioner, Assistant Engineer and a representative from the Law Department are
asked to attend.
Mr. McKay reported on the ad hoc committee which is meeting to discuss honoring past
Council members. The committee members decided to ask SITES students to research
the names of previous Council members. Mr. Limpert, a member of the committee,
explained that the committee plans to prepare a book of the names of past Council
members and all elected officials since the time that North Olmsted became a city, which
happens to be 50 years ago. Mr. O'Grady said it had been his understanding that the
purpose of this committee was to somehow honor past members of Council who had
made a significant contribution. He had heard the criteria was either that the person had
died in office or had served in elective office for 20 years. Mr. McKay and Mr. Limpert
indicated that was not a part of the process at this time.
Mr. Gareau scheduled a Streets & Drainage Committee meeting immediately following
the Legislative Committee. He would like the committee to discuss a system which he
has been researching that will enhance the city's traffic control system. This has to do
with emergency vehicles and the ability of our traffic control devices to recognize
approaching vehicles and to trigger the traffic lights to allow the emergency vehicles to
proceed safely through the intersection. Several communities in the county do have this
system in place. The Safety Director, Service Director, Traffic Engineer and
representatives of the safety forces are asked to attend.
Mayor Musial gave his report at this time: 1) The Charter Review Commission had their
first meeting on February 29. All the members were present, and were given a copy of
the existing Charter and a copy of the proceedings of the 1995 Charter Review
Commission in toto so they could review what was done five years ago.
