Council Minutes of 10/16/2001
be glass, very similar to the shelter located on Fleharty Road. The size will be 5x10_
During the time the children are in the shelter, an adult supervisor will be present at
all times. After discussion, the committee unanimously recommended approval of
Horizon's subject to the recommendations of the various boards and commissions of
the city. Mr. Nashar made a motion that Council approve the proposal by Horizon's
Activity Cemer to build a bus shelter subject to the recommendations of the various
boards and commissions. The motion was seconded by Councilman McKay and
unanimously approved.
Councilman O'Grady, chairperson of the Public Safety, Health & Welfare Committee: 1)
The committee met on October 9. Present were committee members O'Grady and
Limpert; Council members Dailey, McKay and Miller. Agenda items were as follows:
Resolution 2001-119, which authorizes the Mayor to enter into a contract with the
Cuyahoga County General Health District for the year 2002. Comments from the
members of Council cited the outstanding job that has been done by the County
Health District over the past several years, further citing the inability of the City of
North Olmsted to perform these same tasks on our own. A motion was made,
seconded and unanimously approve to recommend approval of Resolution 2001-119..
A liquor permit transfer. Previously, this Council had approved a liquor transfer that
had been submitted to Council with an incorrect address. The office of the Ohio
Division of Liquor Control has requested that Council reconsider this issue. The
permit is a transfer of a D5, D6 liquor license from Apple American Limited
Partnership of Ohio, DBA Applebee's Patio at 5010 Great Northern Plaza North in
North Olmsted to Apple Ohio LLC, DBA Applebee's Patio at 5010 Great Northern
Plaza North, North Olmsted, Ohio, 44070. Councilman O'Grady moved that Council
have no objection to the transfer with the understanding that the address is now
correct. The motion was seconded by Councilman Nashar and passed unanimously.
Councilwoman Kasler, chairperson of the Intra-Governmental Relations and Legislation;
Long-Range Planning Committee: 1) The committee met on Tuesday, October 9.
Present were committee members Miller, Nashar and Kasler; Councilmen Limpert,
McKay, O'Grady, President of Council Saringer. The committee discussed Resolution
2001-126, which is a resolution that encourages Congress to pass HB 2955. This House
Bill would enact the Displaced Workers Assistance Act designed to provide financial
assistance, training and health care coverage to workers who have lost or will lose their
jobs as a result of the September 11 attack on our country. Approximately 100,000
Americans in airlines and related industries are expected to lose their jobs as a result of
September 11. House Bill 2955, presently pending before Congress and which is co-
sponsored by Congressman Kucinich, would enact into law the Displaced Workers
Assistance Act. This act would provide for employees of airlines, commercial airline
manufacturers, suppliers to airlines and airports who lose their jobs either as a direct
result of the attack or an indirect result of security measures that are taken subsequem to
that attack. It provides income support, worker training and health care benefits. The
real crux of this resolution is that it has come to our attention that residents of this city
will most certainly either be directly or indirectly affected by the loss of so many jobs in
6
~,.
