Council Minutes of 9/4/2001 <br />4) There has been a continuing saga in the city with regazd to lowering the cost of the <br />senior lunch program. It has been very difficult. However, the Olmsted Manor chefs and <br />the Senior Citizen Advisory Council have ageed to start a program whereby ahome- <br />cooked nutritional lunch will be prepazed on-site every Thursday for a cast of $3.75. <br />This also includes paper products. Beginning October 5 and every first and third Friday, <br />lunches will be served at the same cost. The lunches begin at noon and aze held at the <br />Senior Cerrter. Thanks to the staff of Olmsted Manor and Mazlene Telegdy and her staff <br />for making this program available to senior citizens in North Olmsted. <br />5) Representative Dennis Kucinich read the following into the Congressional Record: <br />"Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor and recognize the North Olmsted Fire Department for <br />their many years of outstanding service to their local community. The North Olmsted <br />Fire Department has been providing services to North Olmsted Ohio since 1947. Since <br />then, the force has gown to 45 full time firefighters who have dedicated their time and <br />energy to supporting and bettering the North Olmsted community. The North Olmsted <br />Fire Department does much more than simply fight fires. The partnership between the <br />department and the city is incredibly strong and has been an essential componem to the <br />developing community. The department has instituted countless progams to educate the <br />constituency and provide for a safer community. Some of these programs include a <br />seatbelt awareness progam, juvenile fire setters program," (A program designed to make <br />children awaze of the dangers of setting fires.) "civilian CPR education programs, <br />civilian AED education progams and the smoke detector need progam. Mr. Speaker, <br />please join me in recogtition and celebration of the North Olmsted Fire Department. The <br />department plays a large role in the community and has continually served the city in <br />countless capacities. Their dedication and unwavering loyalty to the safety of their <br />constituency has served the North Olmsted community well." As a city, we are very <br />proud of our Fire Department. <br />6) The Mayors and Mangers Association have voted Dennis Clough, Mayor of Westlake, <br />as their representative to the RTA Board of Trustees. <br />7) This year's Homecoming was wonderful. He commends Community Council for their <br />energy and commitment, along with the city employees who spent valuable time in and <br />around the city tents. Thanks also to the Service Department and Recreation Department <br />employees for their work before, during and after the Homecoming. The only dark spot <br />of the weekend occurred during the parade when it rained! <br />8) This past Friday, we had 1.3 inches of rain at the I.eBern lift station in 15 minutes and <br />about 2 inches of rain in an hour. To the best of his knowledge, there was no flooding <br />whatsoever in the city. This is incredible because it shows how faz we have come in the <br />last several years, and also it indicates that the integrity of the system is working out <br />extremely well. <br />9) He has issued a proclamation recognizing the month of October, 2001 as National <br />Breast Cancer Awareness Moirth and October 19, 2001 as National Mammography Day <br />in the City of North Olmsted. Early detection and prompt treatment can significamly <br />reduce suffering and deaths caused by this disease. Mayors across the country aze calling <br />upon all employers and physicians and churches, clubs and other organizations to <br />encourage women of all ages to obtain information about screening and to seek <br />appropriate services. As in past years, the mayors' campaign is suggesting that the cities <br />~"' support this activity by encouraging female city employees over 40 to get mammograms <br />2 <br />
