Council Minutes of 4/17/2001
.ate • It was announced that May 19 is the Hot Stove opening in the city and May 12 is the
tentative the opening of the skateboard park.
• Regarding personnel matters: Doug Nist, aquatics supervisor, will be resigning; a
new bookkeeper, Barbara Butner, has been hired.
` • The commission members toured the area of the Rec Center that was recently
"o"" vacated by the cable company. Various uses of this area have been discussed,
inch~ding office space and a weight training space, but no definite decision has been
made.
• There is an on-going study for consideration of a new entrance-way sign. The center
of the entrance-way sign was blown out in a high wind storm several weeks ago.
The approximate cost for a new entrance-way sign is $48,000 to $58,000. It is
anticipated that, instead of purchasing a new dump truck which was approved by
Council in the appropriations process, those funds will be used for the entrance-way
sign. No definite decision has been made.
President Saringer asked Councilman Miller if the city's insurance policy would cover
the cost of the entrance-way sign. Mr. Miller said that, because of the age of the sign, it
was expected that the covered amount would be minimal.
Councilman O'Grady, chairperson of the Public Safety, Health & Welfare Committee: 1)
The committee meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 10, will occur on
Monday, Apri123, for consideration of Ordinance 2001-55 and a liquor permit transfer.
Councilman McKay, chairperson of the Finance Committee: 1) The Finance Committee
met on Tuesday, April 10, to discuss Ordinance 2001-52. Present were committee
members Limpert, O'Grady and McKay; Council members Dailey and Saringer; Safety
Director Jenkins, Finance Director Copfer and Building Commissioner Conway.
Ordinance 2001-52 amends the organizational chart of the Building Division of the
Public Safety Department to add one full-time zoning inspector position. It also provides
that the one part-time clerical position, one CBE student position and apart-time building
inspector position be included within the Building Department and be paid out of the
Building Department appropriations. The committee recommended approval.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
David Scott, 23954 Dehnere, asked that in the future Council recite the Pledge of
Allegiance slower to allow a matter of respect and also personal reflection.
Tom Gallagher, 6853 Chadbourne, said he was interested in why the Building
Department is being expanded as the city is not building as much as we used to as we are
95% built. Mr. McKay said the situation is that the two part-time zoning inspectors will
be made into one position. The other three positions were already there. The Building
Department has been charged with making outside house inspections throughout the city.
Mr. Gallagher said he hoped North Olmsted would not require inside inspections as
,,, Lakewood doesr-that has cut down on sales in that community. He does not believe
businesses will locate in communities where there are a lot of inspections. Mr. McKay
~. ~ ...
~~~,~
