Council Minutes of 3/20/2001
..~ November requesting certain things be done in the tennis area to include: repair or
replace of the inoperable toilet bowls and tanks; new vanity countertop and working
faucets; personal hygiene supply and disposal units in both toilet stalls; color
coordination of the locker room to replace the current six different coatings;
replacement of the vanity mirror. Other requests were to address the problem with
the constant buzz from the ballast of the lighting system, possible placement of
weather stripping at the doors, repair of the roof of the tennis court which is still
leaking, curtains (which are currently being fined) which are divider curtains, and a
request for a clock possibly even with a buzzer and/or a digital clock which would
tick off by the minute so that everyone would agree as to whose court time was up
and who could resume. Other requests that they had were things that are considerably
larger and probably more long-term: outdoor tennis courts at the Rec Center and
enlargement of the public viewing area for all the tennis courts. The viewing area is a
very small area and only allows a view of the two courts almost immediately in front
of that viewing area. The courts further down are hard to observe. When children are
taking lessons or in competition, the parents like to see their children. Short of placing
a mirror and looking down court, it's very difficult. He did discuss this later with Mr.
Jenkins, and both agreed that it would be difficult to do at this time but is a project for
the future.
• Mrs. DeBrodt, who attended a previous Council meeting with similar concerns about
the closing of Claque Park during the winter hours, was in attendance It was agreed
that there was a communications breakdown and that a lot of the problem could be
corrected with better communications as to under what circumstances Claque Park
would be closed and what circumstances it would be open during the winter months.
• The appropriations budget was discussed. One of the interesting factors is that there is
a $20,000 carryover from the previous year in funds.
• A presentation on the golf course, which was very informative to members of the
Recreation Commission.
President Saringer, member of NOCOP Board of Trustees: 1) The North Olmsted
Commission on Paratransit (NOCOP) met on March 15. In attendance were Art
Boessneck, Carrie Copfer, Pat Dillon, Maryann Pack, Human Resources Director
Copeland and new member Tom Bush. Mr. Copeland, as usual, was very organized and
had a very explicit agenda. The board approved the newest member, Mr. Tom Bush,
from Olmsted Township. Mr. Bush was elected as the vice-chairman and the other
officers remained the same. The 2001 budget was approved. Another agenda item was
the explanation of the city seals for the vehicles. The board is considering arranging small
versions of the city seals from each of the three communities to be placed on all NOCOP
vehicles.
President Saringer announced that Ordinances 2001-21 and 2001-31 would be tabled.
Also, a special Council meeting will be held at 8 p.m on Monday, March 26, for passage
of Ordinance 2001-22 (appropriations) and Ordinance 2001-45 (contract for the
Springvale golf pro.
~..
9
