Council Minutes of 2/6/01
,,~, prior treasurer of the North Olmsted City Schools Education Foundation, treasurer and
trustee of North Olmsted Chamber of Commerce and member of various organizations
both professional and personal. The committee was impressed with her credentials and
feel that she would be an asset to the Housing Council. Mrs. Kesler moved that Council
approve the appointment of Elaine Diederich to the Housing Council for the open terra of
1/1/99 through 12/31/01. The motion was seconded by Councilman O'Grady and
unanimously passed.
Mr. McKay, chairperson of the Finance Committee: 1) The committee met on Tuesday,
January 30. In attendance were committee members O'Grady, Limpert and McKay;
Council members Nashar, Miller and Kesler; Mayor Musial, Assistant Law Director
Dubelko, Service Director Bohhnann. Agenda items were as follows:
• Ordinance 2001-03, which establishes the pay scale and working conditions of the
salaried employees of the North Olmsted Municipal Bus Line through 2003. The
salary will be increased by 3% per year and the night shift differential will have an
additional 60 cents per hour. The monetary increase will be the responsibility of the
regional bus line and not that of the City of North Olmsted. The committee
recommended passage under suspension of the rules because this agreement is
retroactive to January 1.
• Ordinance 2001-06, which authorizes the Service Director to purchase the complete
dewatering centrifuge system for the Wastewater Treatment Plant and to extend by
two months the lease of the trailer housing the system. The centrifuge system has
eliminated odors and brought the Wastewater Treatment emissions within the
guidelines of the EPA, thereby eliminating fines. The lease of the trailer housing the
system is being extended because modifications need to be made to the sludge
housing building. The cost for the extra two months is $30,000, or $15,000 per
month. If the project is completed ahead of time, the cost will be reduced. The
committee recommended approval.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Lois Debrodt, 23141 Stoneybrook Drive, expressed concern that the gates to Clague Park
are closed so that people on bikes or in vehicles cannot enter. People walking their dogs
are in the park. President Saringer said she had checked on this with the Service Director
who explained that the park would be closed during the winter months. Safety Director
Jenkins came forward and said he would check into the matter. However, he believed
that during the winter months there had been a problem with people jumping the curb and
driving parking lot to parking lot, thereby ruining the fields that were recently rebuilt.
Craig Allan, 24875 Gessner Road, who had been an applicant for the Ward 2 Council
seat congratulated Mr. Dailey on his appointment. He noted that, although the process
was not perfect, it dzd work. Mr. Allan said he hoped Council would roll up their sleeves
and work for all the citizens of North Olmsted.
4
I
