Council Minutes of 9/3/2002
the 800,000 member Laborers International Union. Mr. O'Sullivan talked about the
Laborers Union, and their goals and objectives for the future. He and several other
mayors presented Mr. O'Sullivan with a proclamation commending him for his
outstanding achievements and dedicated service to the Laborers International Union of
North America.
5) On August 31, he was invited to participate in the AFL/CIO parade in Warrensville
Heights. Also present at that parade were members of the AFSCME union from the City
of North Olmsted.
6) A public hearing will be held by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority to
describe and receive public comments regarding proposed additions, eliminations and
modifications in our service area effective November 4. There are going to be service
changes in the communities of North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Township and
Fairview Park involving four routes. The public hearing be held in the North Olmsted
Council Chambers on Monday, September 9, from 6 to 8 p.m.
7) A proclamation in remembrance of September 11 was read: "Whereas, in an
unprovoked and senseless act of terrorism, four civilian aircraft were highjacked on
September 11, 2001 and crashed in New York City, Pennsylvania and the Pentagon.
Whereas, innocent U. S. citizens of all heritages, as well as visiting citizens of foreign
nations, were killed as a result of these horrific acts. Whereas, while we as a union still
continue to recover from the unspeakable loss of so many innocetrt lives, the indomitable
spirit of the United States has been revitalized and given way to numerous expressions of
heroism and patriotism. Whereas, the threat of terrorism, destruction and senseless
violence must be banished for any free society to exist. Whereas, the City of North
Olmsted shares in the grief and will commemorate the one-year anniversary of the
September 1 la' tragedies, now therefore be it resolved by the City of North Olmsted, that
we extend our deepest condolences to the innocent victims of these unprovoked actions
by terrorists as well as to their families and friends. Be it further resolved that we salute
the heroism of public safety and rescue workers, volunteers, local officials and those who
responded to these tragic events with courage, self-less compassion, determination and
skill. Be it further resolved that we dedicate September 11, 2002 as Always Remember
9/11 Day, the day to mourn, reflect and rededicate ourselves to ending terrorism in
commemoration of the anniversary of the terrorist acts. Be it further resolved that we
encourage all our citizens to honor the victims of September 11 by reaffirming their
commitment to sustaining our new found patriotism, through volunteerism, community
involvement and service. Be it further resolved that we, as citizens, dedicate our time,
talents and energy to lift one another up to foster a new level of understanding and
awareness. Let us honor the memory of all those who died by being of service to one
another and by building the stronger, more perfect union our Founding Fathers called
for." (A moment of silence was observed.)
Councilman Nashar asked the Mayor for an update with regard to the demolition of the
homes for the library. Mayor Musial said it would take place in the very near future as a
contractor has been selected but the contract has not yet been awarded. Hopefully, it will
take place by the end of September.
2
n~„~,._.M,,,,,. x . , ~ .. .
