Council Minutes of 6/4/20(12
outside environmental corporation so that benefits would not have to be paid. Mr.
Limpert answered that the position is going to be primarily part-time. The consent
decree cost the city a hundred thousand dollars plus a year just in fines. The object
of this position is to keep us out of trouble so we don't get into that problem again.
As a part time position, $30,000 or so a year to have the expertise will probably be a
very big savings. Mayor Musial noted that a part time employee is not entitled to
benefits such as sick leave, vacation or pension. It is strictly an hourly rate. Mr.
Lambert said he hoped the city could get someone qualified who would accept the
position. Mrs. Kasler said she still has some concern about the ordinance and feels
it warrants further discussion in committee.
• He would like the city to do sewer averaging and cap the sewer rates for summer
users. He understands that two meters can be used, but it would take a long time to
recoup the costs of the plumbing work.
• His tree lawn was tom up by a snow plow and still has not been repaired. He cannot
mow around his tree lawn. Also, the street is eroding terribly. It is an asphalt street
laid over dirt. He lives on the curve of the street, and the street is beginning to slide
away in that area. He has asked the administration to take care of this. He talked to
Service Director Thomas, who later told him that he had looked into it and had
"reported" it. He wairts something done about it because much of the street is going
into the sewer. This is a case where the bad is going to get to worse, and the whole
street eventually is going to need replacement. It could be fixed if the street crew
would come out and put down some decent asphalt and re-support the eroding area.
Service has always been number one in this community, and he hopes it will
continue to be that way. Mr. Miller noted that Mr. Lambert is not alone in waiting
for his tree lawn to be repaired. Hundreds of residents are still waiting for their tree
lawns to be repaired by the company that did the street lighting project last year. He
has talked to the Service Director about getting the company back, but the company
has been non-responsive.
Janet Saringer, 23336 Stoneybrook Drive,
• With regard to Councilman Nashar's request for a cable discount for senior citizens,
when the franchise agreement was negotiated for WideOpenWest, she did bring up
the fact if they could provide a discount for seniors. They did do it and are giving
senior citizens a discount. Seniors have to notify them, and they will get the discount.
Also, she did ask Adelphia, but never got a response from them.
• The Seaman Furniture store is vacated and the grass is high. There are ordinances
covering that, and she would like to keep Lorain Road beautiful and would like to see
that grass mowed. Mr. Gareau agreed that this is a problem when businesses move
out. If the city could put some attention to this, it would go a long way toward
cleaning up Lorain Road.
Ron Simmerly, 26859 Leenders Lane
• The "No Turn on Right" sign at Dover Center Road and Brookpark extension was
taken down and a green arrow allowing right turns was installed. This causes traffic
flow problems for people who live on Dover Center and the streets off of Dover
~''°~'~ Center. Mr. Limpert said that should not have happened without legislation.
