Jesse, Richard
To: mstotz@bright.net
~~ Subject: Comments of October 21, 2003
Mr. Marvin M. Stotz
6657 Bretton Ridge Drive
North Olmsted, OH 44070-5078
Dear Mr. Stotz:
This writing is in response to your suggestions and comments presented at the
regular City Council meeting of Tuesday October 21, 2003. Mayor Norman Musial,
Director of Public Service Dan Driscoll, and I discussed this matter, and the Mayor
assigned me to coordinate the Administration response. Your subsequent
correspondence captioned (9) nine points that included various subject matters.
1. The mowing of swales and roadsides is performed by two entities-ODOT and the
City of North Olmsted. The Mayor has requested the Service Department to review
mowing practices as part of an overall review of citizen services. ODOT has been
advised of many concerns we have for I-480, including the mowing frequency and
quality.
2. Your suggestion of floral plantings along Lorain Road is well-taken, and will be
referred to our new Director of Planning, Kim Wenger, for consideration in future plans
for the upgrade of Lorain Ave.
3. Your "Bike Friendly" suggestion is equally welt-taken, and Council addressed issues
related to this with input from local expert Fred Oswald regarding many details of Bike
safety and policy including sidewalks, bike lanes, etc. Officer Chuck Holly of the North
Olmsted Police Department is very involved in this issue, too. Ms. Wenger will also be
requested by the Mayor to review this referral.
4. Your suggestion and expressed frustration with no visible security system at the
Recreation Center is actually a very active work in process, by the City staff. We will
not, and have not, implemented security measures without fully reviewing the legal,
liability, financial, and privacy ramifications of such actions. Rest assured that the
security measures taken at the Recreation Center are ongoing and will be subject to
continuous improvement programs. A Fitness Center is currently a prominent subject of
study by our Recreation Commissioner and Recreation Commission, for future
implementation. We agree that a strong need and desire from residents for such a
facility exists, and we are reviewing options to address this need, with communication of
this probably just after the first of the year.
5. The concern of fatalities and the desire for the installation of traffic signals at Stearns
and I-480 will be referred to the Police Department for further review and
recommendation. Fatal accidents resulting in (2) two deaths total, recently occured on
September 21, 2001 and July 8, 2002.
i
,~ _ . .
.w~,.~,.~.. ,nom:
