Council Minutes of 11/5/2003
chairperson Mr. Dailey check into this issue and get the facts as to what Congress is
doing and what the city can do to protect its residents.
Mayor Musial said he agreed with Mr. Lambert's concerns about safety issues at the
airport. He has maintained for a long time, and he presented the idea to the group which
met at Bricker & Eckler, that the regionalized group of communities should purchase a
20-40 squaze mile pazcel of land 150 miles away from this azea and have bullet trains
running from that truly international airport to the various metropolitan areas. We should
look ahead 25/35 yeazs from now. Travel is going to change completely. Once we have
these super jets with 550 passengers flying into Cleveland, an air collision of two planes
will be a real disaster.
Councilman McKay commented that he has attended many meetings regarding the
airport. He and representatives from other communities have felt frustrated because it
seems that the decisions aze made long before the communities are given an opportunity
to voice their opinions. At one meeting, representatives from the Akron azea proposed
that an airport be built there as they had a lot of vacant acreage which was not neaz
residences. Travelers could be in Cleveland within 45 minutes. Also, yeazs ago the
suggestion was made to expand the airport into the lake, but that was rejected as too
expensive. He has also been frustrated when trying to discuss the airplane noise factor
for North Olmsted. The last meeting he attended at the airport was an informative
meeting only-they were not interested in what the communities wanted.
Councilman Gareau noted, on the issue of the Charter Review Commission, the
amendment passed to allow for a standing committee. He suggested Mr. Lambert submit
his name. The newly formed Commission will see ideas as they come up and will be able
to give input. Regarding Clague Road, major repairs will probably be done every decade.
Let's spend the money to do it right. Sidewalks, drainage and curbing need to be done.
If the county is not planning on doing it unti12005 or 2006, we have time to get together
a plan and coordinate different funding sources and to plan a boulevard that is the
entrance to North Olmsted for people coming off of I-480.
Commenting on the election, Councilman Limpert said he wished to address resident
Mrs. Pat Deis who was in the audience. He noted that she had put out a piece pointing
out that he was running to serve his own political agenda. He wished to explain that his
agenda was to provide some form of choice for the residents. He believes he ran a clean
race and his literature noted what he has done for the community. As faz as the non-
partisan race, he thought that was an exciting time.
Don Pangrac, 23470 Sharon Drive
^ At last meeting, Mayor mentioned about a water report. Has the Mayor had a chance
to review that? Mayor Musial said he had not, but it was on his "to do" list.
^ Regazding Clague Road, he noted that north of Lorain alert-turn lade was needed at
Delmere. People making left turns into Delmere, stop and block traffic all the way to
Lorain Road. It is a safety issue. (This was missed when the intersection was
widened.)
9
