Council Minutes of 8/19/2003
~,, 12) He spoke to residents Karen King and Jerry Peterman of Clubside Drive with regard
Its, to the meeting held last Tuesday dealing with the noise and dust behind Home Depot. It
seems that most of the comments that they had were calls that were made over a year ago.
Nonetheless, the he will meet with the manager of Home Depot, the Police Chief, the
Safety Director and the president of the condo association to go over these problems to
try to come to some type of resolution. He took some pictures of the signs that are posted
along County Club Boulevard. There is no indication/instruction other than trucks shall
follow this path. Those signs will have to be changed so that the truck drivers have a
better understanding of what they are required to do.
13) Planning Director interviews will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. and will conclude on
Thursday.
Councilman Nashar suggested the store managers from Best Buy, Pets Mart and other
area residents who are directly affected be invited to the meeting with Home Depot.
Councilman Miller inquired as to how many interviews would be given to applicants for
the Planning Director positions. Personnel Director Farver said she had received 15
applications and 5 individuals would be interviewed.
Councilman Miller asked for an update on school crossing markings and asked whether
any school crossing guard positions would be eliminated this year. Mayor Musial
answered that, to his knowledge, there is no reduction of school guards. Service Director
Driscoll came forward and said that the Service Dept. has been working on the painting
and will continue it throughout the week. Mr. Miller noted that the Pine Elementary
crosswalk in front of the school at the driveway apparently keeps getting dropped off of
somebody's list to get done. In fact, one year it got ground-out. However, the crosswalk
at Cottonwood, where a new light was installed, has gone from just a standard crosswalk
to now one with candy-striping markings on it. It's much more visible and looks really
good. However, the markings that say the word "school" and the crossing at Pine
Elementary have not been done. Mayor Musial said he would fallow up on that situation
and address the issue, and Service Director Driscoll agreed to review that location.
Councilwoman Kasler asked the Mayor if he had a cost figure for the slab repair in Sandy
Ridge. Mayor Musial said the cost should be on the order of three hundred thousand
dollars. Mrs. Kasler asked for an update on the status of the property maintenance
inspector interviews. Mayor Musial answered that the position had been posted, and a
person will be selected on a provisional basis. Safety Director Jesse further explained
that an ad was run about a month ago and there were 45 responses. Of those, the field
has been narrowed to 10 based on the requirement for state building credentials.
Interviews will begin at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
Law Director Dubelko: 1) On August 6, the city's records commission met and heard a
presentation from Capt. Wozniak of the Police Dept. regarding maintaining records and
establishing retention schedules. It has been one of his issues to get the records
commission up and running and to establish retention schedules and to provide for the
proper maintenance of city records. We have a real storage problem with city records, so
3
