Council Minutes of 6/3/2003
,:~ 7) On the evening of May 31, he attended the 2003 ice show at the Rec Center featuring a
~'' cast of over 100 skaters from the North Olmsted Skating Academy, Westshore Figure
Skating Club, Cleveland Edges Synchronization teams and others. The skaters were from
about 5 years old up, and it was a wonderful show. The theme was a Bicentennial salute, and
it was our city's contribution to the State of Ohio's Bicentennial celebration.
8) The Police Dept. has received three new police cruisers. They are being readied for duty
this week.
9) Safety Town will be held the next two weeks, with graduation on June 20 and June 27.
Approximately 150 children are expected to participate in the program which emphasizes
traveling safety for small children.
10) The Assistant Fire Ghief job posting has occurred, and the testing procedure is
commencing through the Civil Service Commission.
11) Roof repair plans for Fire Station No. 2 roof are continuing with legislation before
Council this evening. The health issues were on review with the County Health Dept., and a
private assessment has been performed which clears the building of any imminent health
hazards.
12) The hydrant flushing program will begin in the very near future.
13) With regards to Springvale, the revenues for the month of May are down about $30,000
in the golf course area and up about $2,000 in the ballroom area. The rain has hurt revenues.
14) This weekend is All Scouts Weekend. Everyone is encouraged to visit the various camp
sites to show their interest and support in the Scout program.
15) Initial interviews for the new Service Director will begin tomorrow.
Councilman Nashar suggested to the Mayor that signs and/or banners be erected informing
the public as to when the Lorain Road rehabilitation and the library construction was to begin
and be completed. Mayor Musial agreed to do so.
Law Director Dubelko: 1) The management team held NOMBL pre-negotiations meeting on
May 21 and May 28. He has asked Council to go into executive session on that tonight so he
can discuss in more detail the management strategy.
2) On May 21, he completed revisions to the city's slab repair contract and that was sent over
to City Hall on that day and presumably handled by the administration from that point.
3) On May 22, at the request of the Director of Human Resources, he sent a letter to
Cuyahoga County regarding the legal status of the city's master plan for grant purposes.
4) On May 22, he provided the Mayor and Council with a proposal for funding the position
of Director of Planning in light of some developments with respect to Cuyahoga County
Planning Commission's inability to provide those services for the city Planning Commission
in conjunction with the master plan process. That was followed up with another memo on
May 31.
5) On May 22, he sent a memo to the Mayor and Council regarding planning for the use of
the old library building. This is an important issue, and a timeline should be completed for
developing the use of the old library building for whatever purposes the city decides upon.
7) On May 27 and June 3, he attended directors' meetings.
8) On May 27, also in compliance with Ordinance 2002-72, he sent out RFP letters to a
number of Cleveland law firms to accumulate a bank of resumes in the event that we need
outside legal services in the future.
9) On June 2, he issued a memo to the Mayor and Council regarding the status of the BFI and
3-Z contracts.
