Council Minutes of 11/3/2004
from that fund. Thank you to both the Fire Chief and the Assistant Chief for their work
in getting this grant for our city.
Assistant Fire Chief Robertson came forward and announced that the Department of
Homeland Security had awarded the grant to the city. So, we are ready to begin once our
legislative process is complete. He anticipates everything will be completed with the
next 12 months.
2) The Safety Committee met this evening, November 3, to discuss a liquor license
request for Lorain Clague Enterprises, Inc., located at 23370 Lorain Road, a Cl, C2
license-basically beer and wine carryout until 1 a.m. The owner/applicant is Steve Ali
of Middleburg Hts. The Police Dept. has no objection. This individual is known to
various Council members and city representatives to be a very good citizen in our
community. Mr. Ali is involved in various youth activities, organized sports, and is
supportive of the DARE program. Due to personal reasons and the fact that he does not
necessarily agree with the concept of selling alcohol at gas stations, Mr. Miller will be
voting no. This is not a reflection on Mr. Ali who is a great citizen in this community
and should be recognized for his efforts. Councilman Miller made a motion that Council
not object to the Cl, C2 liquor license for Lorain Clague Enterprises, Inc., 23370 Lorain
Road. The motion was seconded by Councilwoman Kasler. Roll call: Miller, no;
Kasler, yes; Gareau, yes; McKay, no; Limpert, yes; Dailey, yes; Nashar, yes. The motion
passed with 5 yeas and 2 nays.
3) The committee had previously asked for trash receptacles to be placed on the bike path
so that trash and animal droppings could be disposed of properly. A memo was received
from Dave Wendell noting that the Service Dept. has installed trash receptacles in two
places as an experiment-at McKenzie at the bike path and Stearns at the bike path. The
Animal Warden will come up with some wording for a sign to be placed near the
receptacles indicating what they are there for and not to leave any waste on the path.
Should this experiment work, additional receptacles will be placed at all entrances and
exits. Hopefully this will work, and the bike path can be enjoyed for the purpose it was
intended. Thank you to the Service Director and the Animal Warden for attending to this
issue.
Councilman Dailey, chairperson of the Recreation, Public Parks & Buildings Committee:
1) The committee met on Tuesday, October 26, to discuss three pieces of legislation. All
members of Council were in attendance including committee members Nashar, Miller
and Dailey; various directors, the Mayor and guests. Agenda items were as follows:
^ Resolution 2004-163, a resolution authorizing the Mayor of the City of North
Olmsted to enter into a cancellation and termination of lease agreement with the
Board of Trustees of Horizons Activity Centers for the purpose of terminating the
lease of the city's real property at 26272 Butternut Ridge Road. On behalf of the
administration, Human Resources Director Copeland advised that Horizon has leased
this property from the city at a cost of $1 per year. They in turn had used the space in
conjunction with the provider to provide services dealing with developmentally
challenged individuals. The provider has cancelled their contract with Horizons, and
~F
7
., ..,,,~ _ __ ~ . u,u..
a,.r ._ ,~,. _. .. -. ~,...>.~,.~..-
