Council Minutes of 11/3/2004
thus Horizons wants to get out of this space at this point in time. The committee
voted unanimously to approve and recommended passage under suspension of the
rule.
^ Resolution 2004-167, a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into a contract with
Sports Venue Advertising, Inc. for the purpose of selling advertising space on the
dasherboards, walls and other locations at the Recreation complex. Commissioner
DiSalvo deferred to Joe Yatsko, Sports Venue Advertising, the vendor for the
dasherboard advertising at the Rec Center. Mr. Yatsko spoke about the great
opportunity for the Recreation Center to generate additional funds for use. He
projected the first year at $40,000 and going up from there. Law Director Dubelko
advised that the contract had a few loose ends that had to be ironed out. The
committee voted unanimously to approve Resolution 2004-167 subject to the
recommendation of the Law Director. The committee is hopeful that this project will
generate funds for the recreation complex.
^ Ordinance 2004-155, an ordinance establishing pricing guidelines for the rental of the
Springvale Ballroom and Golf Course. After a lengthy discussion, a motion was
made by the sponsor to table this ordinance. The motion passed unanimously. The
issue is not dead, however, as the sponsor worked with the Law Director to establish
a range pricing similar to what is used for the recreation programs. That legislation
will be on first reading tonight.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Duane Limpert, 4921 Berkshire Drive, addressed Council as the chairman of the fire
levy. The fire station issue evolved out of the Vision 2000 committee as part of the five-
year plan. The Finance Director deserves thanks in finding the opportunity as a sewer
levy was being retired. Thanks to the Mayor for sponsoring the legislation. The
committee would like to thank all of Council for approving the legislation unanimously
to go before the voters. Thank you to the committee members Jim Burns, treasurer, and
Jeff Peepers. Thanks also to Assistant Chief Ed Robertson who provided much help.
Most of all, thank you to the businesses and residents who helped support the committee
and definitely all the voters who voted for it.
Assistant Fire Chief Robertson said he wanted to echo Mr. Limpert's sentiments. He
appreciated the support of the administration and of Council. This is a great step for the
Fire Dept. as it will allow them to continue to meet the needs of the citizens of North
Olmsted as the city continues to grow. Thank you to the voters and everyone who
supported the issue.
Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane, is concerned about leaf pick-up. He believes the
cost to the city is almost three hundred thousand dollars, and we are not getting our
money's worth. He continues to believe that this should be done by city employees. He
has not been satisfied with the company that provides this service as they do not always
provide three pick-ups or the last pick-up is too late in the year and the leaves are covered
by snow. There is a safety problem on the bridge over I-480. Election signs were hung
over the bridge, and the wires are now sticking out into the sidewalk area. Regarding the
8
I
