Council Minates of 9/7/2004 committee did meet this evening prior to caucus with all members in attendance and unanimously voted to recommend approval of Ordinance 2004-128. In response to his inquiry to the Police Dept. regarding this issue, the Chief responded: "It continues to be the opinion of this department that traffic and criminal laws need to follow a uniform agreement amongst cities and states." That's what this House Bill will do if passed. - Ordinance 2004-129, which is a repeat ordinance from last year to lease equipment from the Naval Surface Warfare Center. The city leases two EA AN/1'VS-5 night vision goggles at the rate of $600 a year for both of them. The benefits and expenses involved were discussed. The committee recommended unanimously to approve passage of this ordinance with the request that the Safety Director look irno the feasibility of purchasing such equipment; and, for future purposes, we should be prepared to know whether or not it makes economic sense to purchase or to continue with this lease arrangemern. 2) He thanked Council for their patience in allowing him to miss the last Council meeting as he took his youngest daughter to college in Charleston, South Carolina. Councilman Dailey said he would give the Recreation Committee report at the next meeting. However, he noted that Recreation Commissioner DiSalvo had given a great presentation about everything that was accomplished at the Rec Center so far this year and the things they are still looking to accomplish. LETTERS AND COMMUNICATIONS The following letter was read: "Mr. O'Grady and members of City Council, I live at 27981 Andorra Drive. We just moved into this city last July, 2003. At that time, the street in from of my house in particular was slowly being torn apart. There were holes and potholes in a 100' curve. I called your Service Director several times, and within a few weeks (spring), the city truck was here cold patching the holes. I was glad to see that happen, but two to three weeks later the street was being measured and I was told the street was being replaced. Not to belabor you any longer with my story: I wish to thank all that were involved in replacing Andorra Drive. My immediate neighbors all Concur and also wish to be included with this thank you letter. I moved from Olmsted Falls after 26 years and find this city and my neighborhood to be a fine place to live. Thanks again, James Petrick" AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION Charles Dial, 27959 Gardenia Drive, questioned why the Recreation Center pool was not being drained while repairs were being completed. Safety Director Jesse came forward and said the pool has been shut down temporarily because we need to do some necessary repairs to get it ready for the swimming season. The starting blocks are going to be repaired, and there are some other items that don't require draining of the whole pool. There is some grouting that needs to be done, some drainage issues that need to be addressed and we hope to have it finished before the main season. <,;, 7
