Council Minutes of 8/17/2004 <br />start in the vicinity of the southwest corner of the city property, .which is the southeast <br />comer of the librazy property, down along Butternut Ridge and will have brick posts. <br />There will be a wood fence that will run along the property line. It will run north to <br />midway to the trash enclosure, which is currently owned by the library. At this point, <br />the fence will have vinyl sections. After that, the fence materials will change to open <br />aluminum, with the same brick posts, which will continue to an enclosure. That will <br />secure the entire area. There is a current chain link fence there that will be removed, <br />and some scrub brush which will be taken out. It should be noted that no current <br />landscaping will be disturbed. Estimated cost of the fencing is $35,000. After <br />discussion, the committee unanimously recommended approval. <br />• Woodpath development sign lighting. The development was represented by Mazlene <br />Wierda and Jim Buttle. The proposed project is to illuminate an existing sign at <br />Lessner and Woodpath Trail, similar to Lessner and Canterbury. The Engineering, <br />Service and Planning Depaztments had no objections to the proposal. Although the <br />development is in Westlake, a 1990 agreement with the city permits the development <br />sign on North Olmsted property. It was determined that the lighting would not <br />adversely affect adjacent properties. It was represented that the wattage would be less <br />than 100 watts. After that discussion, the committee unanimously recommended <br />approval of the Woodpath development sign lighting, subject to the recommendations <br />of the various boazds and commissions. Councilman Gareau moved that Council <br />approve the illumination of the Woodpath development sign, subject to the <br />recommendations of the various boazds and commissions. The motion was seconded <br />by Councilman Limpert and passed unanimously. <br />• A proposal to renovate the facade of the old Kids R Us store at the east end of the <br />Great Northern strip shopping center. The store has been vacant for some time, and <br />the proposal is to bring in a Dallas Shoe Warehouse. There was some <br />miscommunication on the part of the representatives, and the city was not provided <br />sufficient updated information after the project came out of the Planning <br />Commission. Because there were no updated materials, the matter was held in <br />committee by unanimous vote. The committee urged the Dallas Shoe Warehouse <br />representative to return with a digitized photo to show the proposal in relation to the <br />rest of the strip center because it's a pretty busy azchitectural place. It was also <br />suggested they revise their plans consistent with the Planning Commission <br />recommendations of July 27, 2004 so that the committee could see the plans <br />incorporated imo the project. As of this meeting, they had done neither and they were <br />still working off of plans that were inconsistent with what the Planning Commission <br />had suggested. Dallas Shoe Wazehouse was held in committee. <br />• Pepper Joe's, a proposal to change the front railing material from aluminum and glass <br />to wood and pipe rail. This property is east of Columbia on the north side of Lorain <br />Road. The Planning Commission and the Architectural Review Board approved a <br />modified rail system with additional landscaping to screen the railing. Landscaping <br />will now include two beds with interlocking pavers, a 2-foot high sandstone system <br />to hold back the landscaping. It was agreed that the deck would be eventually stained <br />white once the wood had properly cured and that the railing would be painted a <br />bronze color to match. It should be noted that this particulaz project had by and lazge <br />been completed by the time it got to committee, so there's not a lot that could be done <br />7 <br /> <br />
