Council Minutes of 211712004
~.. his property. He bought the property for two reasons: one, he didn't want anybody
behind him; two, as part of his retirement, he has a section of property 200 feet x 880 feet
which he can sell to a residential developer and keep it residential and put 20 houses back
there. The value will go down dramatically if half those houses are butting up against a
parking lot. Takes great offense to the rezoning of residential areas into commercial.
Once that sets the precedent, where does it end? It will be a domino affect in that section
and everybody will be looking for the same thing.
Don Pangrac, 23470 Sharon Drive
• Asked Mayor Musial if the Mayors and Managers Association was supporting county
Issues 23, 30 and 31. Mayor Musial said they were.
• He is concerned about the amount of salt being used on the streets. The city is only
supposed to be salting intersections, but he has had salt past the sidewalk and up into
his driveway. Service Director Driscoll came forward and said, when he feels there is
going to be dangerous conditions on the side streets due to freezing of water and then
covering with snow and with police recommendation, he will salt the side streets.
This season he has done so on three occasions. He tries not to waste salt but will use
it in the best interest of the residents.
• Regarding Ordinance 2004-14, he is hoping the powers that be can insure the
residents of this highly traveled, congested area that there is going to be sufficient
safety and traffic flow patterns on that corner. There is akeady a problem at Delmere.
He hopes traffic flaw is given strong consideration as to how that should be
developed.
• Regarding Mr. McKay's report on the airport, we've had a decline in business and in
usage of the big aircraft and they're talking about spending more tax dollars to add a
new runway. He doesn't know what the thinking is.
Charles Diai, 27959 Gardenia
• Asked the Mayor what is going on with the transformer at the WWTP and the
meeting that was to be arranged and to which Mrs. Kasler asked that she and he be
invited? Mayor Musial said the meeting was held on the 23`~ of the month, and he
had received Mrs. Kasler's memo after that date. Mr. Dial asked if he and Mrs.
Kasler would be notified of future meetings. Mayor Musial said that Mrs. Kasler will
be notified, he is not sure that Mr. Dial or Mr. Barrett will be. Mrs. Kasler noted that,
at the last Council meeting, she was told her memo came after the meeting. She sent
another memo asking to be apprised of any further meetings and also asked for a
written report of the results of the first meeting. She has not received that. When she
is informed of the next meeting, she will let Mr. Dial know.
• With regard to the Mayor's lawsuit, he would like to be clear as to precisely what the
Mayor is asking the court to rule on. Is he requesting a private or public disclosure?
The Mayor said the intent is to make those records public under the open records act.
Patricia Deis, 26893 Sweetbriar, is very disappointed to hear that the Mayor felt it
necessary to sue the city. It's very difficult for her as a taxpayer to understand why he
~, would file suit against members of his own administration. It would make for a very,
very difficult work situation for the people involved. It also takes money that is not his,
10
