Council Minutes of 12/20/2005
REPORTS
'~`' Mayor O'Grady: 1) He, along with members of the administration, and Councilmen
~r
Nashar and Orlowski, met with representatives of CEI and discussed methods of tree
trimming.
2) The Levine College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State will soon begin the program
for newly elected officials, which is a series of presentations which would be of great
interest to all the members of Council. He encouraged Council to take advantage of this
program.
3) We are all saddened with the passing of our Springvale golf pro, Jerry Ludvik. He was
a good man and a great asset to our golf course, and he will be missed.
4) Departments:
Community Life Services Department,
• There will be mammogram screenings made available to seniors, coordinated
through Fairview Hospital at their Westlake facility.
Human Resources
• Anew fire wall has been established with the local area network in our city. It
will make us more secure in restricting appropriate access.
• Changed our provider for the Internet to Wide Open West-anticipate an annual
savings of $1,800.
Planning
• He and Director Wenger met with representatives of Metroparks to discuss the
creation of a joint access point at the new Fire Station No. 2. The footprint as
developed will fit entirely on our own property. If we work with Metroparks and
share their land immediately to our west, we will create green space on the eastern
side of our property benefiting our residents. The Metroparks will not have to
expend the funds to build their own access drive when they create the trailhead.
This will provide some added security as our emergency vehicles returning to the
fire station will get a chance to look at what's going on there.
• There has been a development review for 2005 that has been completed and
Council will receive copies.
Safety
On December 8, there was a strong odor of gasoline in the Chapel Hill area. The
Sewer Dept. determined that kerosene had been let into the sewers on Bristol
Drive. It was not an emergency situation, and it was analyzed and dealt with.
Service
• Snow removal continues. As in past years, salting is done on the mains,
intersections and hills in the back streets. In addition to costing less, an additional
benefit will be much less damage to our streets.
• The leaf pick-up program is suspended due to weather and will begin again when
the snow is off the ground.
3
