Council Minutes of 10/18/2005 <br />John Knox Church. Two volunteer groups painted garages for needy <br />citizens. Efforts aze being made to organize other such volunteer efforts. <br />• The Senior Center garage sale raised $1,434, with the proceeds to go for <br />programming for senior citizens. <br />• Director John Dailey was named to the Polazis Career Center Advisory <br />Council. The council works with many schools in our region to ensure all <br />aspects of cazeer technical education aze being met. <br />Personnel & Administrative Services/Human Resources <br />• General liability insurance premium from this yeaz declined to $224,000, a <br />5% decrease from previous years. The general trend of the market plus <br />the claims history of the city accounts for that decrease. <br />Planning <br />• Director Kim Wenger will be speaking to the Chamber Commerce on <br />Thursday about economic development. She will talk about on-going city <br />business cooperative issues and experiments. In the area of economic <br />development, both he and the Planning Director met with the leadership of <br />Moen and the Westfield shopping mall. The administration will continue <br />the outreach to corporate citizens to make sure they know the city supports <br />them and to seek their support for issues that aze occurring within the city. <br />Safety <br />Good news from the Police Dept. Our four-man team won the regional <br />L.E.O.P.A.R.D. (Law Enforcement Officer Performance And Reaction <br />Drill) challenge at Lorain County Community College. The team consists <br />of Officers Periandri, Scullin, Bielozer and Goodwin, and they will soon <br />compete in Las Vegas at the national competition. The officers have <br />organized and trained on their own time and have done fund-raising to pay <br />for their trip to Las Vegas. Congratulations to those officers. <br />The recreation pool roof repair is ahead of schedule, and the pool should <br />be open this coming Monday, ahead of schedule. On October 31, weather <br />permitting, the two new HVAC systems will be installed via helicopters. <br />For safety reasons, the Rec Center will be closed on that morning. <br />Service <br />• The Sandy Ridge concrete replacement program continues, with work <br />complete on Sudbury, Bristol, Fairfax, Waterbury Circle and Darby Lane. <br />Park Place is complete on the north side and the south side is scheduled to <br />be placed this week along with the south side of Kingston. The north side <br />of Kingston is already partially done. <br />• The North Park estates concrete replacement program continues with <br />Camellia, Nandina, Azalea being complete. The pavement on Gardenia is <br />complete with the exception of the east cul-de-sac, and the aprons on the <br />south will be poured next week after the concrete cures. Oring will begin <br />this week. <br />2 <br />
