Council Minutes of 8/15/2006
;, .„ AU1.J~,,, IENCE P RTICI)~ATION
'`t Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane, commented on his personal views regarding the
F~~~
dynamics of the relationship between City Council and the Mayor which do not conform
to his view of good government. Regarding the odor problem at Suburban Auto, he noted
that the area residents had warned there would be an odor problem. However, the owner
provided experts who said there would not be a problem and the facility was allowed to
move from an industrial area to an area where residents live. This should not have
happened.
Charles Dial, 27959 Gardenia, inquired about the method and deadline to file for a sewer
tax rebate. He expressed dismay at the recent increased property tax evaluations, and he
was disappointed with the information provided in the mailed documents.
John Davis, 5862 Barton Road, spoke again about his claim that he did not receive his
full separation pay to which he was entitled upon his retirement. Mr. Davis presented a
packet of materials to Council for their review and asked for their intervention. A
lengthy discussion ensued with Law Director Dubelko reiterating that this is a legal
matter which is being handled in the Law Department. As Mr. Davis had exceeded his
allotted time, Councilman Miller moved to allow him to speak for two mare minutes after
all other audience members who wished to speak had done so. The motion was seconded
by Council Member Jones. Roll call: Miller, yes; Jones, yes; Barker, yes; Ryan, no;
Orlowski, yes; Gareau, yes. The motion passed with five yes votes and one no vote.
Melissa Meredith, 4491 Williamstown Drive, representing neighbors in the Suburban
Auto area, spoke about their continued concerns. They have been patient, and will
continue to do so. They waited for new filters and doors, which did not solve the
problem. Weather does seem to have an impact on the odor, and their fear is that the
weather will start changing and it will seem the problem is solved. They hope that, when
Suburban comes before Council for a permanent conditional use permit, the temporary
permit will be revoked based upon not solving the problem or the temporary will be
extended for another year to be sure the problem has been solved. The residents have
heard the promises of the city and know they will be lived up to.
Susan Takacs, 27660 Lauren Lane, representing residents in her neighborhood, spoke
about promised repairs to their streets. To this day, there are few street repairs an Lauren
and Lisa Lane, and the residents were wondering where that stands. The Mayor and
Service Director addressed the concerns and noted that only minor repairs were being
done this year. The worst holes have been filled in, but they recognize the area needs
further work. By the end of the year, the administration intends to have a street survey
prepared. The survey will determine which roads are the greatest need for repair and will
prioritize those streets based on needs.
Jim Burns, Chamber of Commerce, 25045 Lorain, asked Council to vote against
suspension for Ordinance 2006-146 as he feels it should go into committee. The
committee process allows interested parties to review ordinances and to have input.

11
