Council Minutes of 8/1/2006
Council has to find the money and has to make a hard decision. As an example, this
,;~,,;,~r Council stated they were more than willing to provide the funds to put in the ADA doors.
They are not against that, but they have to make hard decisions as they come along and
they have to make financial choices. That's what they did. These are not easy choices.
Roll call continued: Tallon, yes; Barker, yes; Gareau, yes. The motion passed
unanimously. Councilman Miller moved for adoption, and the motion was seconded by
Councilman Ryan. Roll call: Miller, yes; Ryan, yes; Gareau, yes; Jones, yes; Orlowski,
yes with comment that he does not wish to hold up the vote on this, but he has a number
of questions regarding the amount of money required and what the city involvement will
be. He will present those questions to the Service Director and the Law Director. Ro11
call continued: Barker, yes. Tallon, yes. The motion passed unanimously. Resolution
No. 2006-141 adopted.
Resolution No. 2006-142 was introduced and placed on first reading by Mayor O'Grady.
A resolution authorizing the Mayor, on behalf of the City of North Olmsted, to enter into
an agreement with the Board of Cuyahoga County Commissioners for the purpose of
accepting a FY2005 Urban Area Security Initiative Grant for the Fire Department, and
declaring an emergency. Councilman Barker moved for suspension of the rules requiring
three readings and formal committee review. The motion was seconded by Councilman
Miller and passed unanimously. Councilman Barker moved for adoption. The motion
was seconded by Councilman Miller and passed unanimously. Resolution No. 2006-142
adopted.
MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS
Councilman Orlowski commented to the Mayor regarding an issue he has brought up
several times dealing with the Bentley Drive/Lorain Road and David Drive/Lorain Road
intersections. Since Lorain Road is being resurfaced, he again wants to request a nice
transition at those intersections, very similar to the Coe Avenue/Lorain Road intersection.
At Bentley Drive, a catch basin sits in the middle of Bentley Drive and a storm sewer sits
on Lorain Road. The top of the sewer is on a 45 degree tilt and vehicles are hitting it
when pulling out of Bentley Drive. There is a similar problem at David Drive and Lorain
Road. He hopes these areas can be smoothed out during the resurfacing of Lorain Road.
Mayor O'Grady asked Mr. Orlowski to present this issue to the Service Director.
Councilman Orlowski said he would. On another issue, he thanked the Mayor for the
work that was done on the curbs of Country Club Boulevard which are looking much
better. He is hoping that landscaping work can be done there with the use of landscape
timbers, cutting of weeds and the planting of trees. He would like to see this area fixed
up as it is a direct line from Great Northern Blvd. to Lorain Road. Mayor O'Grady said
he would pass along the thanks to the Service Dept. workers. He recently had
discussions with the Planning Director regarding the city streetscape plan and how we
can take a look at certain intersections and certain major roadways and do things
differently.
9
