Council Minutes of S/3/2U06
restaurants in Arizona, and it's a very nice establishment. Welcome to North
Olmsted. Roll call continued: Ryan, no; Tallon yes. The motion passed with five
yes votes and two no votes.
• Wellington Place, 4800 Claque Road, with a proposal to construct athree-story
senior residence facility and other site improvements. The matter was discussed at
length and there was significant audience participation. It was held in committee,
and a complete report will be given at a future meeting. The concentrated
discussion centered on the issue of screening properties on Mastick Road from the
proposal based on lighting and other issues. The Planning Director, City Forester
and Councilman Orlowski and other interested parties were out at the site today to
look at potential screening possibilities. The committee also had referred to the
city engineer a request that the Engineering Dept. weigh in on the functionality of
a drainage pipe which apparently is within an easement owned by the city and
whether that was functioning. The mounding and screening issue was discussed
with the City Forester and has been addressed. This project will be discussed
again at a BZD meeting on Tuesday, May 9.
Councilman Barker, member of the Recreation Commission: 1) The Commission met
Monday, May . The following items were discussed:
• Updated f nancials for the f rst quarter were submitted. There was an increase in
categories, and all areas seem to be on the mark.
• The Commission received a letter from the Hot Stove League requesting that the
new baseball fence be left up until the conclusion of their baseball season which is
July 31. The Commission had a discussion regarding this, and it is their opinion
that the fence come down before June 6 as was reported out last month. This was
also discussed in the Recreation Committee of Council, and it was agreed that the
fence should come down so as not to interfere with All Scouts Weekend June 10.
It would also open up the park for N. O. residents for the rest of the summer. The
Safety Director mentioned that he has had a few complaints that the fence was
obstructing the view of residents who live on East and West Park. After an in-
depth debate, the Commission voted not to have the fence up any longer than the
first week of June.
Mayor O'Grady commented that, although the Hot Stove League made their request to
the Recreation Commission, the decision on the fence lies with the administration. He is
glad they expressed their opinion and will certainly take that into account. He concurs
with the position of Councilman Barker and the Recreation Commission. We made a
commitment to the high school league to have the fence up to the end of their season, and
it is his intent to stay with that plan.
Councilman Orlowski, chairperson of the Public Safety, Health & Welfare Committee:
1) The committee met on April 26. In attendance were committee members Orlowski,
Tallon, Barker; Council Members; Safety Director Terbrack, Law Director Dubelko,
Assistant Director of Community Life Services Allegra and Chamber of Commerce
Representative Jim Burns. The following items were discussed:
9
