Council Minutes of 1/17/2006
Human Resources
• Information Technology has installed a fire wall that monitors employees' use of
the Internet. Although misuse of city computers is a very rare thing, this will
prevent while it also puts in place additional securities for our network.
• We have advertised in Sunday's Plain Dealer for the position of secretary to the
Planning Director. The final day for applying is January 23.
Planning
• Boards and Commission training will be done in cooperation with the Law Dept.
on Saturday, January 28. Members of the new Planning & Design Commission
and the Board of Zoning Appeals will have training from 9 a.m. until Noon.
Council is invited to attend and observe.
• Recreation master plan will kick off on Thursday, January 26. An advisory
committee has been formed that will include representation from the Recreation
Commission, City Council and city administration. The committee will be
working with the consultant team of Kerr + Boron Associates and RCU
Architects.
• On Thursday, January 19, the Cleveland Metropazks Board of Commissioners
will be considering our proposal for a joint access drive at new Fire Station No. 2.
The legislation introduced tonight will allow negotiation and finalization of the
agreement. This is a positive step forwazd with regard to site planning for the Fire
Station, is a benefit to the Metropazks, is a benefit to the citizens of North
Olmsted, and is a great example of how regionalism/cooperation can work
between governmental entities.
Safety
• North Olmsted Police Dept. has received the resignation of a corrections officer,
and a provisional replacement will soon be appointed.
• There were no bids for the purchase of five police cruisers. Ordinance 2006-6
discusses efforts to go through the state procurement program.
• There is a pending retirement of a fire fighter. An eligibility list has been
requested from the Civil Service Commission to address the vacancy when it
occurs.
Service
• The Floyd Browne Phase I report was presented to the EPA on time during the
first week of January. As they analyzed the storm event of August 20, 2005, it
was accurately quoted as being a 1,000 year storm. That has the probability of
occurring once in 1,000 years. So it was an incredibly unusual event.
• The ADA entrance to the Senior Center is moving along.
Law Director Dubelko: 1) The Law Dept. is in the process of moving from the
Community Bldg. to City Hall. This is the first time the Law Dept. has been located on
the city campus since North Olmsted was incorporated.
2) He received communications from lawyers with clients who have interest in two
pieces of city legislation that are pending-Senior Residence District legislation and the
news rack regulation ordinance. The department will be reviewing those materials and
reporting to appropriate City Council committees.
3) Litigation update:
2
