Council Minutes of 12/18/2007
9) Two hundred sixth graders and one hundred forty-eight eighth graders graduated from
our DARE program this week.
10) With the enactment of new legislation, our Police Dept. is taking nuisance odor
complaints. The city has informed the affected residents that, if they have any complaints
with regard to nuisance odor, they are to report those to the Police Dept. who will follow
up with our Law Dept. regarding citations and potential court action as needed.
11) Wal-Mart donated $1,500 to the Fire Dept. for use in their Muscular Dystrophy local
fund. The money will stay in North Olmsted assisting family members who are suffering
from that disease.
12) Welcome to new fire fighter Frank Selig who was sworn in yesterday. He will
undergo athree-week orientation program.
13) This week marks the end of the Stearns Road reconstruction project for 2007. The
section of Stearns Road from Lorain to I-480 will have traffic shifted to the new east side
lanes soon. All driveway aprons on the east side are now in, and the sidewalks are being
completed this week on the east side of the street. Once the weather breaks in the spring,
the western side will be completed.
14) The Board of Control today awarded the new trash pick-up contract to Allied Waste.
15) Leaf pick-up has ended on schedule. As soon as the snow melts, the city will check
for any locations that may need additional attention.
16) He will introduce Resolution 2007-152, which is a great initiative that is going to
benefit our citizens and most certainly support our armed forces. Our city will be
adopting a military unit from the 82nd Airborne Division-Battery B, Third Battalion,
319`" Field Artillery Regiment. We will do this through an organization called America
Supporting Americans. The Field Artillery Battery is currently deployed to active
combat areas in Iraq, and we will be supporting them through letters and donation drives.
All donations to our adopted airborne unit should be made through the Community Life
Services Department. As always, this unit and all military forces remain in our prayers.
Councilman Barker questioned the Mayor as to whether there were plans for a better
repair of Lorain Road at Stearns due to the construction work. Mayor O'Grady said
discussions with the contractor are ongoing with regard to that. We have made it very
clear to the contractor and the County Engineer's office we expect that to be repaired.
We certainly understand that, as the final intersection is completed when the new
Crocker/Steams roadway is being joined at Lorain Road, there will be even more work.
In the interim, the patch job that has been done there has been inadequate, and we have
made it very clear that we expect more. Mrs. Jones said she had concerns about this also.
Law Director: 1) The annual Law Department report will be presented at the first
Council meeting in January.
2) Extended his good wishes to Ron Tallon. They worked together for a number of years,
particularly the 10 years he was on the Planning Commission. He always found it a very
pleasant experience working with him and thinks it has been mutually rewarding for both
of them Good wishes to Mr. Tallon.
Finance Director Copfer: 1) RITA collections have ended. We received our last monthly
payment at $13,039,380, which was .17% below the prior year, which equates to about
3
