Council Minutes of 12/4/2007 <br />5) The annual employee appreciation holiday brunch will be held at Springvale on <br />December 19 from 10:45 a.m. until 2 p.m. All city officials are welcome to attend. <br />6) Sixteen different health insurance carriers were solicited, but only Medical Mutual of <br />Ohio responded with an offer to provide service care to the City of North Olmsted. The <br />percentage increase anticipated for health care for 2008 will be 8.8%. Open enrollment <br />for full-time employees will be posted allowing two weeks for employee response. <br />7) The Industrial Commission disallowed former fire fighter John Davis' claim for <br />occupational disease. <br />8) Last evening, a focus group was held to solicit user input regarding the North Olmsted <br />branch library improvement project, particularly for the first floor children's area. Those <br />who attended provided good ideas and substantial recommendations to the project <br />architect. <br />9) Our Cultural Activities Commission will be hosting atwo-day holiday event on <br />December 26 and 27 at Old Town Hall beginning at 7 p.m. on both evenings. There will <br />be children's games, a puppet show, live music, refreshments and more. All are <br />welcome. <br />10) Safety Director Thomas, Chiefs Klecan and Wozniak, and Capt. Hohenfeld of our <br />Fire Prevention Bureau will be meeting with School Supt. Cheryl Dubsky, Asst. Supt. <br />Doug Sebring and Director of Building and Grounds Joe Hyland to review school safety <br />plans as is required by State law and to create and review their annual safety plan. <br />11) DARE graduations begin this week and will go into next week. They will be held at <br />St. Richard's, Pine and Maple Schools. <br />12) Safety Director Thomas and Chief Klecan are meeting with fire officials later this <br />week to create a hazmat truck training program. The objective is to allow our Fire Dept. <br />personnel to train on the hazmat truck that is stored in the third bay of Fire Station No. 2. <br />13) Division of Youth Services is sponsoring a fundraising production of Beauty and the <br />Beast at the Beck Center on Sunday, December 9. We encourage people to support this <br />worthy service. <br />14) The Glow Dance Club is in the final preparation for a Friday, December 7, opening. <br />Building and Fire Dept. officials are reviewing all requirements prior to issuing a <br />certificate of occupancy for this teen dance club that will be located at the intersection of <br />Stearns Road and Lorain Road. <br />15) The final pours for the eastern aprons and the roadway center on Stearns Road should <br />finish today. We are happy to report that for more than a week all residents were able to <br />park in front of their homes and many are now in their new driveways. <br />16) The bid opening for residential trash pick-up was held, and the Board of Control will <br />award the contract next week. <br />17) The Service Dept. installed a new historic marker at Springvale which was dedicated <br />at the tree lighting ceremony. Thanks to our Landmarks Commission for their efforts on <br />this worthy project. <br />18) Extra crews were brought in to work the leaf pick-up beginning last week, which has <br />increased our capacity from 500 to 800 cubic yards daily. The contractor worked <br />overtime on Saturday to get the program back on track following the late leaf fall. If <br />snow does not interfere, the contractor plans to complete the three rounds on schedule. <br />19) Mayor O'Grady took a moment of personal privilege to announce that, after some <br />substantive thought and reflection, he has decided to pursue the Democratic nomination <br />2 <br />
