Council Minutes of 9/4/2047
the noise that children make while playing and reading books, and the openness to the
fountain (which is a magnet for preschool aged children) and the proximity to the exit.
The old North Olmsted Library Branch may have been too small but the children had
their own area to search for books and play without disturbing the other library patrons.
In the new building, I do not feel comfortable allowing my children to search for
materials since the materials are too spread out into the main areas of the library.
Children's safety is a parents' primary concern. Some suggestions that I have heard
would be to section off the current children's location making it more confined or to
remodel the meeting room adjacent to the children's area into a new children's section
with the books, videos and play area more like that of the Westlake Porter Public Library.
As it stands currently, strangers have open access to children and our children have
access to wander all over the library. I apologize that I cannot be at the meeting in person
but I wanted to be sure that Council understands how important it is to have a secure and
private children's area for our preschoolers. My goal is to have a1I parents of
preschoolers in North Olmsted use our library instead of going to Westlake or other
surrounding communities. Thank you for the opportunity to make a voice for our
preschool parents and children. Cordially, Kimberly Rahm, North Olmsted Preschool
PTA President"
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Maureen Diver, 24711 Mitchell Drive, commended everyone this evening for their
graciousness in the way they are conducting themselves. She attended the previous
Council meeting and, during a proclamation presentation to the Fire Department, she was
concerned as she felt there was chatter going on at the dais which she thought was
disrespectful.
President Kennedy said Mrs. Diver's comments were appreciated. It often happens that
there is talking at both parts of the podium, and that is something that needs to be worked
on.
Charles Dial, 27959 Gardenia, did not attend the last Council meeting but he is a patient
of the Walters and has the utmost respect for their professionalism and talent and was
appalled at the way their situation has been handled. He felt liability for the litigation
should be on the individuals who did not listen to legal counsel.
Law Director Dubelko commented there is no litigation. The executive session was
because of imminent litigation.
Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane, said it was good that the Walters issue is going back
to committee as he thinks there were some issues regarding the development of that
property that need to be looked at carefully to make sure traffic patterns and the integrity
of the residential community is protected while again serving the best interests of the
community and the business. While walking through the RTA lot, he noticed some street
lights are now missing and wondered if CEI was aware so that the city is not paying for
7
