Council Minutes of 8/21/2007
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Maureen Diver, 24711 Mitchell Drive, North Olmsted, spoke about the Walters Dentistry
project which she supports. She feels that votes by Council and boards and commissions
should be made on facts and evidence not personal feelings.
Jerome Barrett, 24125 LeBern Drive, North Olmsted, spoke about the Walters Dentistry
project which he supports. He attended two meetings and felt he didn't hear any
evidence against the project to show it would have an adverse impact. As these would
not be minimum wage jobs, he feels it would benefit the community.
Sheila Barrett, 24125 LeBern Drive, spoke about the Walters Dentistry project which she
supports and could not understand why it had to come before Council for approval.
These aren't retail jobs, and we are losing income. She is embarrassed by this, and she
feels this is all about power.
Law Director Dubelko explained to Mrs. Barrett that Council is required by law to be the
final body that reviews and makes the final decision on development plans. City Council
has been well counseled in casting their vote to do it based upon the Chapter 1126
factors. They've been provided with that advice, and he trusts that, when they cast their
votes, each one of them cast their votes based upon their beliefs as to whether or not the
factors in Chapter 1126 were followed.
Steve Walters, 1482 Fitzroy Street, Westlake, Ohio, said he was surprised and shocked at
the vote as they had done everything they were supposed to do. They put together a
project, sought out the property they felt would suit the project, invested lot of time,
money and effort developing a really attractive facility. They felt it would reflect the
type of care they give to their patients and reflect well on the community as a gateway
coming into the eastern end of North Olmsted. He had met with the neighbors across the
street who felt the project would fit well and be better than anything else that might go
there in the future. He feels constituents in that area haven't been served and the city
hasn't been served.
Dennis Lambert, 25057 Carey Lane, spoke about the part-time Fire Administrator
ordinance. He noted that the Fire Administrator was working currently without the
ordinance. He does not believe the comment that not passing the legislation puts the city
at risk. He noted the Mayor has said he wants to do more with less. He asked that
Council continue to do their job and oversee the tax dollar.
Mayor O'Grady said he felt the administration was doing more with less by bringing in a
part-timer instead of a full-time employee.
LEGISLATION
Ordinance No. 2007-81 introduced by Mayor O'Grady was given its second reading. An
ordinance to make and transfer appropriations for current expenses and other
expenditures for the City of North Olmsted for the year ending December 31, 2007, as
18
