He would ask that the transcripts of the meeting of August 7 be
safeguarded and, if possible, delivered to his office. He will get a verbatim transcript and
share that with all of Council. The Clerk inquired if the Mayor was suggesting she did
not give him tapes. Mayor O'Grady said he was saying that on occasion he requested
tapes and the Clerk did not have them. He stated he would clarify that later as he didn't
think the Clerk realized what he was referring to. She agreed she did not.
2) The Safety Director and Fire Chief were invited to come forward. The Mayor
presented them with a proclamation recognizing the North Olmsted Fire Fighters whose
2007 Fill the Boot campaign will assist the Muscular Dystrophy Association in providing
medical services at local clinics, summer camp, research grants, support groups, and
public education seminars at no cost to local children and families. In 2006, the North
Olmsted IAFF Local 1267 raised $9,241 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. He
proclaimed August 21 as North Olmsted Fire Fighters Day in North Olmsted and
commended for their efforts on behalf of our citizens and the MDA.
3) With yet another innovation for our Homecoming celebration, the city will host a
spaghetti dinner in the big tent on the midway on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. A suggested
donation of $5 will assist the less fortunate in North Olmsted and our men and women
overseas in the armed services. He hopes to see everyone at the Homecoming parade this
Sunday at 2 p.m.
4) Saturday, September 1, is the AFL/CIO North Shore Federation of Labor, Labor Day
parade. He is proud to be hosting that parade in our city. The parade steps off at 10 a.m.
and follows the same route as the Homecoming parade. He asked that everyone come out
and show support to the men and women of organized labor.
5) A free senior health care fair will be held at the Senior Center on Friday, August 31,
from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
6) Cuyahoga County Auditor Frank Russo and his representatives will be at the Senior
Center on September 7 from 8:30 a.m. unti16:30 p.m. regarding the expanded homestead
exemption.
8) Sad to report that one of our NOCOP bus drivers, Mr. Bob Strickland, has passed
away. Bob has been a driver for NOCOP for many years, and he will be missed not only
by those of us in NOCOP but also by citizens, our senior centers, and our handicapped to
be transported. Sincere condolences to his wife and family.
9) Regarding NOCOP, a federal grant with an 80/10/10 split between federal level, the
Senior Transportation Connection, and our city has delivered two brand new vans to our
2
