He would ask all residents and <br />all elected officials to come out and show support for organized labor that day. <br />5) Departments: <br />• The city will host a spaghetti dinner during Homecoming, which will be prepared <br />by the Springvale staff at the midway big tent on Friday, August 24, from 6:30 to <br />8 p.m. Donations will go to the Department of Community Life Services and to <br />the USO to assist soldiers overseas. Additionally, we will have city displays, a <br />brief history of the City of North Olmsted, an abbreviated State of the City <br />address, and a look at future development in the city. <br />• North Olmsted Senior Center will host a senior health care fair on Friday, August <br />31, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. <br />• Cuyahoga County Auditor Frank Russo will have representatives at the North <br />Olmsted Senior Center on September 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. to discuss and <br />assist senior residents with the expanded homestead exemption. <br />• Civil Service Commission will be conducting a test for Building Inspector <br />positions on September 8. Deadline for application is August 23. We have hired <br />two part-time personnel to assist the Building Dept. until those vacancies are <br />addressed. <br />• During the week of August 13, our employee assistance program provider will be <br />meeting with all of our full-time employees to explain the counseling services <br />now available to them. <br />• The city is being seriously considered fora $70,000 NOACA grant for the Great <br />Northern Multi-modal Transportation Plan. This is quite a feather in our cap. <br />The proposal was submitted in May, and NOACA will officially announce <br />recipients next week. It's part of the Transportation for Livable Communities <br />Initiative. The planning study will begin in September should we be selected. <br />• The Community Development Block Grant Citizens Advisory Committee has <br />begun meetings to discuss possible grant proposals for 2008. There will be a <br />public hearing on Wednesday, August 22, at 6:30 p.m. to solicit ideas from our <br />community. <br />• Cultural Activities Commission, Kiwanis and Key Club are hosting the Frostville <br />Art Show this Sunday, August 12, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Many local artists <br />are participating along with the high school art competition, historical home tours, <br />music, and food provided by Lone Star Steakhouse. Admission is free, but <br />visitors are encouraged to bring anon-perishable food donation. <br />• Held a combined ribbon cutting/open house for our new Fire Station 2 on July 12. <br />Thanks for all the elected officials and other citizens who were able to attend. <br />Most importantly, thank you to our residents for approving this construction. <br />• There will be a swearing-in ceremony for three new police officers in Council <br />Chambers on Wednesday, August 15, at 10 a.m. All are encouraged to attend and <br />welcome our new city members. <br />• North Olmsted Fire Dept. assisted the Westlake Fire Dept. on a major fire at the <br />Crown Court apartment complex on August 1. <br />• Proud to announce the Great Northern Blvd. overpass over I-480 was completed <br />on schedule and within budget. Congratulations to our Service Dept. and all <br />others who were involved in that project. <br />2 <br />~:- <br />
