Council Minutes of 6/19/2007 <br />4) Free hearing screenings will be held on July 12 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the North Olmsted <br />Senior Center. Please call for an appointment. <br />5) Civil Service Commission yesterday established an eligibility list for the position of <br />Assistant Fire Chief and certified Todd Kirkpatrick to the appointing authority for that <br />position. <br />6) Three proposals for consultant services for analysis of our municipal facilities for <br />performance with the Americans with Disabilities Act have been received and are being <br />considered. <br />7) Planning & Design Commission will continue with review of our redevelopment and <br />rezoning plan for the Crocker/Steams corridor. <br />8) The DARE golf outing was held this past week and was a great success. Thanks to <br />DARE Officer Glenn Adamson and all others who participated. <br />9) Police Dept. is currently interviewing police officer candidates and conducting <br />background investigations for our corrections officer vacancies. <br />10) Fire fighters are expected to move into new Fire Station 2 this Thursday. Ribbon <br />cutting and open house will be held during the second week of July. <br />11) Concrete slab repairs are under way in the Laurel Woods area. Cracksealing <br />continues at locations throughout the city. <br />12) Yesterday, construction began on the outer lanes of Great Northern Blvd. with the <br />placement of concrete. Majority of the concrete should be in place by early July with the <br />remainder of the month spent on drainage and sidewalk issues. The overpass should be <br />completed by the end of July. <br />13) Construction on existing Stearns Road continues. All utilities have now been moved. <br />Soon the previously existing utility poles will be removed from the site. Storm sewer <br />installation work continues with the culverts, mains and crossovers. Within 30 days, the <br />actual road construction is scheduled to begin with pavement removal and concrete <br />paving. The construction north of Lorain on the Crocker/Steams extension continues <br />with structure demolition almost complete at the previous funeral home. Major <br />excavation and storm sewer work is in progress. <br />14) He is introducing and requesting suspension for Resolution 2007-78 which authorizes <br />applying for Issue 1 funding for much needed work on Dover Center and Fitch roads. <br />County Engineer Bob Klaiber has agreed to a 50/50 split on the 20% of the project costs <br />the city is required to pay. If successful, we anticipate saving nearly $2.5 million in <br />repair costs on these roadways. <br />Councilman Ryan addressed the Mayor with regard to the on-going projects concerning <br />city sewers. He was going to request Council set up a committee to look at sewer/water <br />issues, but he inquired whether the administration was ready to discuss the issue or <br />wanted to prepare a report for Council by August. Mayor O'Grady answered that <br />Council should have been advised the city is in receipt of the rate and operational study <br />that was completed at the WWTP. That information is currently being analyzed, and it's <br />the administration's intent to present Council with a summary of that by the end of this <br />month. <br />2 <br />
