Council Minutes of 5/1/2007
4) A Mother's Day brunch will be held at Springvale on Sunday, May 13, with Beatings at
11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Reservations are encouraged.
5) Community Life Services Dept, is looking for individuals and organizations to work
on volunteer community projects throughout the year. Contact Director Dailey.
6) On May 22, 12:30 p.m. at the Senior Center, seniors 90 and over will be honored.
7) Interviews for an economic development consultant will be concluded this week.
8) Fifty-three candidates took the corrections officer test on Saturday, Apri128.
9) Live-fire training at the funeral home at Stearns and Lorain was tremendously
successful with over 21 different live-burn scenarios being completed. Approximately 35
fire fighters from North Olmsted and nearby communities participated each day. Thanks
to Mr. Marty Sulzmann of the County Engineer's office far making the site available for
training and for helping prepare the site.
10) A household hazardous waste round-up is taking place through May 6. Bring
hazardous materials to the pallets located in the Service yard. Latex paint is not
considered a hazardous product and will not be accepted.
11) Stearns Road reconstruction continues with the installation of storm sewers and the
construction of a temporary sidewalk. The Lorain Road to 1-480 portion of the project is
scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. A separate issue is the placement of a
traffic signal at Dorchester and Stearns, and the city is in negotiations with the County
Engineer's office on how best to facilitate that.
12) The first new concrete has been poured on Great Northern Blvd., and work is
scheduled to continue through the end of July.
13) Believes that Ordinance 2007-50 is an attempt of select members of Council to limit
the administration with regard to how they conduct business. He encourages Council to
reject this effort and to allow the experts who work with these issues every day to decide
when and how to mark city vehicles.
Law Director Dubelko: 1) Law Dept. is interviewing law student candidates for summer
clerkships in the department.
2) Elm Street properties litigation is scheduled for trial in June. He attended a meeting
with the plaintiff's attorney, insurance defense counsel and the Planning Director to talk
about possibilities of settlement that might involve a review of the new Single Family
Cluster code.
3) Received a letter from attorney Dan Kolick representing Suburban Collision Center
regarding the matter pending between the city and Suburban Collision. Shared a
summary of that letter with the BZD chair, and he will be speaking with the Safety
Director regarding it.
4) Provided counsel to the administration, to Councilwoman Jones and Councilman
Gareau regarding issues relating to truck traffic on the new Stearns/Crocker Road.
5) Litigation report: As previously reported, there were procedural skirmishes occurring
involving the case of city fire fighters and the motion to vacate two arbitration awards.
Those procedural motions were resolved by determinations by the court-the motion of
the union to show cause and the motion of the city were moot. Some of the side motions
are being resolved; hopefully, we are going to get a decision very shortly from Judge
Sutula.

2
