Council Minutes of 4/17/2007
5) Plans are in place for reconditioning of the ice rink at the Recreation Center. On
Monday, May 21, we will begin to melt down the rink ice. Once the ice is melted, a
visual inspection of the facility will begin. If no repairs are needed, we will immediately
begin to proceed with the installation and leveling of the rink base sand. Through the
months of June and July, we will begin to raise the new ice. It is our intent to be open
again for skating on August 1 of this year.
6) Anyone interested in the first Fairview Park/North Olmsted Relay for Life on June 23
and 24 to benefit the American Cancer Society should contact Community Life Services
Director Dailey or our city chairperson Melissa Meredith for more information.
7) Springvale will be hosting a Mother's Day brunch on Sunday, May 13. Springvale is
now open for golf.
8) The Civil Service Commission established the entry-level Police patrol officer list, and
the top five candidates were certified. Currently, there are two vacancies in the
department resulting from one retirement and one promotion to Sgt.
9) The Landmarks Commission, in cooperation with the school S.I.T.E.S. program, the
North Olmsted Chamber of Commerce and the North Olmsted Historical Society, is
undertaking a living history project which will capture on video the oral history and
memories of residents. The Commission is looking for volunteers to share their city
history, photos and artifacts as well as volunteers who are interested in helping with the
organization. Contact Planning Director Wenger for more information.
10) A new auxiliary police officer has been hired, and the Civil Service Commission will
be administering the corrections officer test on April 28.
11) Plumbing Inspector Lou Cifranic will be retiring from the city on August 1. Lou has
done great things for our city, and he will be missed.
12) Current weather forecasts appear favorable for a training burn at the former funeral
home at the Stearns and Lorain Road intersection this weekend. During the 3-day
exercise, various training and simulations will occur. Fire departments from neighboring
cities have been invited to participate.
13) Spring street sweeping is continuing this week.
14) The mosquito larvicide helicopter drop has been completed at Bradley Woods.
15) Household hazardous waste roundup will take place Apri123 through May 6. Pallets
will be set in the service yard.
16) He was contacted by the leadership of Cleveland State University Maxine Goodman
Levine College of Urban Affairs that he will be honored in May as their distinguished
elected official of the year. The good stewardship of our city combined with the
willingness to be involved in regional and international issues was cited as the basis for
the award. He is proud to accept this award on behalf of the citizens of our city.
Law Director Dubelko: 1) On April 9, provided an analysis of the new Cleveland Water
agreements.
2) April 11, provided information to Councilman Orlowski regarding the use variance
that was granted by the BZA for the Walter's Dentistry new facility on the corner of
Clague and Brookpark. He told Councilman Orlowski that he cannot provide legal
advice because the city Law Dept. represents the BZA in this matter. If any interested
party including City Council wished to take an appeal from that decision, our Law Dept.
would be on the other side of it. That would compel Council to select outside counsel.
2
