Council Minutes of 12/2/2008

were not privileged to do so and were not fully awaze of the situation because it
had not yet been presented from the administration. Nevertheless, it would be
noted that night that more information would be forthcoming which might help
explain City Council's approach. By virtue of everyone in attendance at this
Council meeting, everyone understands what that additional information was.
The committee agreed to a reduction of 5% from $94,810 in 2009 to $90,070 to
begin in 2010 with no increase for the four year term. The projected savings in
that position over four years was $18,960. An interesting figure to recognize, if
all the legislation is enacted, is the total savings of a flat four years for all these
offices is $210,364. Also, the PERS retirement has not been factored in, which is
another percentage on top of that, and would bring it very close to a quarter of a
million dollars in additional savings. The committee handled all the legislation in
one motion. In committee, Councilman Bazker made a motion to recommend
approval of Ordinances 2008-142, 2008-143, 2008-144, 2008-145, and 2048-146
with amendments of adding an emergency clause to each and that each piece of
legislation would reflect a 5% decrease from the 2009 salary, with. the exception
of Ordinance 2008-144, the Law Director's salary, which reduction was
significantly greater than 5%. The committee voted 2-1 on the recommendation
of the amended legislation with Councilman Gazeau dissenting.
Councilman Gareau made a motion to amend Ordinance 2008-142 to add the emergency
clause and to have it reflect a 5% reduction, and the motion was seconded by Councilman
Barker. Roll call: Gazeau, no; Barker, yes; Kearney, yes; Ryan, no; Orlowski, yes;
Mahoney, yes; Jones, yes. The motion passed with five yes votes and two no votes.
Ordinance No. 2008-142 amended.
reduction and to add the emergency clause. The motion was seconded by Councilman
Bazker. Roll call: Gazeau, no; Barker, yes; Jones, yes; Mahoney, yes; Ryan, no;
