Rte. <br />i <br />Council Minutes of 6/17/2008 <br />3) Second annual North Olmsted Relay for Life is Saturday, June 21, at the high school <br />stadium. All are encouraged to support this outstanding community event sponsored by <br />our city and city schools. <br />4) ODOT has responded to the numerous city inquiries regarding the cracks along the <br />newly paved Lorain Road. The administration continues to investigate that and there will <br />be more to follow. <br />5) Fourth of July parade, bike contest, and picnic will take place on July 4. The bike <br />contest is for all boys and girls up to age 12, with judging starting at 9:45 a.m, at the City <br />Hall Police Dept. parking lot. Parade will follow, ending at North Olmsted Park where <br />there will be picnic games for the kids and entertainment on the pavilion stage. There <br />will be a special drawing for one girl and one boy to win a $100 Toys R Us gift <br />certificate, courtesy of the North Olmsted VFW. <br />6) A Senior Housing Fair will be held on Wednesday, July 30. Senior housing options <br />and resources to make their homes safe anti senior friendly will be presented. <br />7) On July 17, the North Olmsted Senior Center will have an informative lecture on how <br />to save dollars for seniors in the purchase of prescription drugs. <br />8) A mediation session is scheduled with the AFSCME ClericaUTechnical union on <br />Wednesday, June 25. Afact-finding session is schedule with AFSCME Service on <br />Thursday, June 26. SERB has assigned Mr. David Pincus to oversee both sessions. <br />9) The Records Commission has recently approved retention schedules for the Mayor's <br />office, Law Dept., Planning Dept., Boards and Commissions and Building Dept. The <br />next meeting is scheduled for July 2 to review retention schedules for Council, Human <br />Resources Dept. and Safety Dept. <br />10) The Civil Service Commission meeting last night addressed several questions raise`: <br />regarding the revised Rules and Regulations approved by the commission in May. The <br />commission had invited all employees to attend last night's meeting to share concerns or <br />ask questions. The Rules and Regulations will now be distributed to all departments and <br />divisions. <br />11) Re-dedication and reception ceremony at the Frostville Museum for the new <br />Frostville Village Church, which was formerly Barton Road Church, will be held on <br />Sunday, August 3, from 1-4 p.m. All are invited to attend and see the amazing <br />restoration of this church thanks to the time and talents of the many volunteers in our city <br />associated with the Olmsted Historical Society and others. <br />12) Board of Control awarded a contract to Whitehouse Construction for the North <br />Olmsted branch library improvement project. Work will commence shortly and is <br />anticipated to be completed by October. <br />13) Ammunition ordered for our new Police Dept. patrol rifles has been received. <br />Training on the use of these new weapons is being scheduled. With the practice <br />ammunition now available, weapons qualifications will begin shortly. All personnel will <br />qualify on the patrol rifles before the new gun racks are installed in police cars and the <br />weapons are issued for use. <br />14) Under guidance from medical staff at St. John's Westshore Hospital, EMS crews in <br />North Olmsted are being trained in a new procedure, intraosseous access, which allows <br />for the rapid infusion of fluids and drugs to the patient. <br />15) Second-round interviews are now being scheduled to fill the Assistant Building <br />Commissioner position. <br />2 <br /> <br />
