Council Minutes of 3/18/2008
2) Tax assistance advice is available to seniors in our community through the AARP.
Please contact the Senior Center to schedule an appointment.
3) Through the Senior Home Safety Grant Program, the city was able to assist eight
seniors in making safety repairs to their home with the idea of allowing them to live in
their homes for longer periods. Out of the participating communities in this county
program, North Olmsted has assisted the most seniors. Seniors wishing to participate
should contact the Senior Center or CLS Director Dailey.
4) Residents will soon have access to the Spring/Summer program guide for the Rec
Center with many new activities and classes.
5) Emergency food cupboard is low on supplies. Donations of non-perishable items can
be dropped off at City Hall.
6) Kick-off for the steering committee meeting of the Great Northern Multi-Modal
Transportation Plan will be held March 19 at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. Anyone
who wishes to observe is welcome.
7) The administration will be making a presentation of the recreation plan to all of
Council next month.
8) There was an electrical outage yesterday at Westfield Great Northern Mall which
caused ashort-term evacuation of the facility. Other surrounding areas were affected, but
CEI had the problem corrected within two hours.
9) He was proud to attend a ceremony honoring North Olmsted Police Officer Bill
Saringer who was chosen by the North Olmsted Knights of Columbus as the 2008 Blue
Coat of the Year.
10) The Safety Dept. and Law Dept. continue in the process to evaluate emissions from
Suburban Auto. The Law Dept. has contacted legal counsel from Suburban, and we are
attempting to move forward on that assessment.
11) Annual evaluations for employees of the Police and Fire Depts. have been completed
and are with the Dept. of Human Resources.
12) Major activity should be commencing within the next 30 days on the Crocker-
Stearns project. With good weather, we could see the west side of Stearns Road
uncovered as early as the end of April.
13) Work began this week to insulate the Community Cabin ceiling to install high
efficiency lighting that should bring significant energy cost savings at that facility.
14) Work on the Crocker-Stearns sound wall will continue this week with foundation
work. The I-480 replacement sound walls surveyor stakes are in the ground. Actual
posts for those sound walls will be put in place as the weather permits.
15) Legislation: Resolutions 2008-23 and 41 are being held for the second time due to
the unavailability of the Intra-Governmental Relations chairman. He feels this is a
disservice to the citizens when legislation that has importance is held for 30 days.
Law Director Dubelko: 1) On March 11, received correspondence from the County
Prosecutor's office regarding the implementation of a new local Court of Common Pleas
rule that affects the holding of felony suspects in jail pending indictment. It has been
forwarded to the Safety Director and the Prosecutor to be addressed by the Police Dept.
2) On March 12, attended the Records Commission meeting which continues to make
good progress in creating new retention schedules for all the city departments and
divisions.
2
