Council Minutes of 3/5/2008
7) Entry level test for dispatcher was conducted on February 16. Fifty applicants were
scheduled, and 31 participated.
8) Civil Service Commission met on February 25 and voted to establish an entry level
dispatcher list and certified five names for consideration by the Safety Dept. The
Commission also approved the administration's reorganization plan for the Engineering
Division.
9) During February, Medical Mutual of Ohio and the city's healthcare consultants met
with employees in the Police Division to explain the new health care plan. Police
personnel were enrolled in the new plan effective March 1, 2008.
10) Information Technology Dept. is going forward for designs for our Do Not Knock
Registry and is currently putting the technological infrastructure in place. In the
meantime, the Safety Dept. continues to take calls for that registry.
11) The library improvement project was recommended for approval by the Planning &
Design Commission at their meeting on February 27. Construction documents and bid
specifications are being finalized for Council's review in April.
12) Kickoff for the steering committee for the Great Northern Multi-Modal
Transportation Plan will be held on March 19 at 6:30 p.m. in Council caucus room. Any
interested parties are welcome to attend.
13) Fire crews were called to a Columbia Road medical run early last month and found
extremely high levels of carbon monoxide in the home because the residents had placed a
gasoline powered pump in the basement to remove water. Three occupants were taken to
the hospital; two were released but one was kept for several days due to carbon monoxide
poisoning. We emphasize care and caution in this regard.
14) Fire crews were extremely busy last night with the ice storm that took down tree
limbs and wires. Fortunately, we have no serious injuries directly attributable to the
storm. However, certain neighborhoods in Ward II are still without power.
15) On Thursday, February 28, the Safety Director gave a speech at the Senior Center to
explain the 911 emergency medical system and the priority medical dispatch system,
which will be put into place over the next few months.
16) The Safety and Law Directors will be meeting with Auburn Environmental on March
13 to discuss the ongoing concerns with regard to Suburban Auto.
17) Foundation work began this week for the Crocker-Stearns sound walls.
18) North Olmsted Community Cabin will have its ceiling insulated this month.
19) Last Friday bids were opened for our new fuel contract, which will. soon be
considered by the Board of Control.
20) Three months ago in these Chambers he announced he was beginning a campaign for
the Democratic nomination for the lOt'' Congressional District. That campaign ceased to
be with the election yesterday. Most sincere congratulations to Congressman Dennis
Kucinich for his outstanding victory in that election. Thanks and congratulations to the
others who chose to run in that race. It was a very good process. It was something that
on a personal level he enjoyed. On a professional level, he learned a great deal. He looks
forward to continuing to serve the residents of North Olmsted as Mayor. At some point
in the future, he thinks we would do well to have representation from the Westshore go to
Washington on our behalf.
2
'. ~ ... krt
