Council Minutes of 9-15-2009 3) Jeffrey Sturgeon, 3092 W. 231, requested that Council consider permitting an ordinance to allow responsible dog owners to walk with their dogs on a leash in the North Olmsted public parks. He spoke with several residents, and they were unaware that dogs were not allowed in the park. The signage indicating this is not always visible. He encouraged Council to visit the parks to see responsible dog owners that bring their dogs into the parks. Why have the ordinance if it's not enforced? Allowing leashed dogs in North Olmsted parks provides some positive benefits for the city and all of its residents such as increased utilization of the parks. He would recommend leashed dogs not be permitted in playground areas of the park. He believes that residents deserve the freedom and respect to utilize the parks with their pets and their families considering they all pay for them. He said he's willing to work with Council and the Administration to review this request in working through the details of changing the current ordinance. Mayor O'Grady thanked Mr. Sturgeon for his comments. He said he will be introducing Ordinance 2009-109 which is a step towards permitting responsible owners to bring leashed pets into the parks. The Recreation Committee will hold a meeting on that legislation next week on Tuesday, and he encouraged Mr. Sturgeon and others to attend. 4) Dean McKay, 5197 Columbia Road, said it was a pleasure to serve with Mrs. Seman during his term on City Council. Although Council was apprehensive when Mrs. Campbell left, Barb did as well as she did, and maybe better. He told Mrs. Seman he hopes she enjoys her retirement as much as he has enjoyed his. 5) Tim Smith, 6053 Sherwood, congratulated Barb Seman and hopes she enjoys her retirement. He had the privilege of going on the streets tour and wanted to thank all the Council members who were there, especially Mrs. Daily Jones and Service Director Limpert. It was very informative. He thinks they've made great strides in the improvement of the streets over the years considering limited resources. He thanked them for inviting the public. 6) Ron Tallon, 27548 Laurel Lane, thanked Barb Seman for everything she's done for Council and for the city. She's been a great asset and he appreciates her deeply. He wished her happiness in her retirement, and best of luck. 7) Paul Miller, 3941 Pine Circle, said he had the privilege of serving with Barb Seman for twelve years, and he can't thank her enough. He seconds all the comments that have been made by so many people about her skills, her talents, her love of her job and the people she works with. He once described her job and working with all the ,different Council people like a good shepherd trying to herd a corral of cats. He wished Mrs. Seman and her husband, Fred, the best. 8) Mike Fioritto, 25051 Doe Drive, introduced himself as the Scout Master of Troop 630 out of St. Brendan's. He referenced a magazine he brought with him from September of 1974. All Scouts Weekend is featured on the cover. The Scouting magazine, which went to all registered leaders in the United States, featured an article written by the late 10
