Council Minutes of 9-IS-2009
Reverend Mr. Jerry Coleman who was permanent deacon at St. Richard's and also at St.
Brendan's. The article gives a history of All Scouts Weekend, which was started by the
North Olmsted Kiwanis Club in 1951. One of the big supporters was Ralph Christman,
who later became Mayor of North Olmsted. He thanked Council and the Mayor for their
support over the years. He also thanked Barb Seman for her help in getting ready for All
Scouts Weekend
9) Janet Saringer, 23336 Stoneybrook Drive, wished Barb Seman a happy retirement.
She said she's busier now than she's ever been, and she's sure Mrs. Seman will have
plenty to do. Good luck, and do some traveling.
10) Ernie Oergel, 5414 Sunset Oval, introduced himself as the Assistant Scout Master of
Troop 204 out of Clague Road United Church. He was the one who approached Mr.
Mahoney on the fence issue over at North Olmsted Park and asked him if there's
something they could do. He thanked Councilman Mahoney for presenting something.
He thanked Council and the Mayor for their support. He's been involved about ten years
now with the All Scouts State Committee. Usually things go pretty smooth, but Council
and Recreation helped resolve an issue this past year. Everyone met and were able to
compromise. That's a wonderful thing for a city like this. He asked that all support this
resolution, and he invited everyone to attend All Scouts Weekend.
Council President Kennedy, on behalf of Council, thanked Barb Seman. He described
Mrs. Seman as hard-working, caring, positive, organized, dedicated, and loyal. She has
contributed in a big way to every Council person up here and out there. He thanked her
for her service, and wished her a happy and very, very long retirement.
Councilman Gareau thanked Barb Seman, and described her as a great friend over the
past decade. He would be driving back from some courthouse somewhere, and he'd use
his earpiece to call City Hall just to talk to Mrs. Seman to ask how things are going.
That's more than a co-worker. That's more than a boss. That's a friend. He told her
she's done Council a great favor. They can't repay that. They couldn't even begin to.
LEGISLATION
Ordinance No. 2009-97 introduced by Councilwoman Jones and Councilman Orlowski
was given its third reading. An ordinance amending Section 337.20 of the Traffic Code
to prohibit unreasonable noise caused by the operation of jake brakes, and further
requesting the Ohio Department of Transportation post signs on Interstate-480 in North
Olmsted stating "Excessive Engine Braking Noise Prohibited." Councilwoman Dailey
Jones moved for adoption. The motion was seconded by Councilman Orlowski and
passed unanimously. Ordinance No. 2009-97 adopted.
Ordinance No. 2009-101 introduced by Mayor O'Grady was given its second reading.
An ordinance revising the organizational chart of the Division of Springvale Golf Course
by abolishing the position of Custodial Supervisor at the Springvale Ballroom in order to
11
